Well,a director is certainly a captain of the ship when it comes to hindi movies.Of late there have been some fresh and talented(most important exciting )directors who have given a new ray of hope to an industry where most of the directors get INSPIRED from a hollywood amd make a really bad copy of it.Among the directors to look out for are:
1)Sanjay Leela Bhansali-Does he need any introduction?To say that Black was one of the best movies EVER in Indian cinema is an understatement.All his films Devdas,Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam,Khamoshi have been masterpieces.He sweeps the award function the year his films are released.Next on the anvil is Sawariya in 2007.
2)Karan Johar-You love him,hate him but you cannot ignore him.Only he has the capability to accumulate the biggest stars of the industry in one film.No one knows packaging like him.His films are about big budget,big sets,lavish costumes.
3)Farhan Akhtar-He created a lot of hope for city audiences with Dil Chahta Hai.Lakshya may not have hit the bull's eye but was a sincere effort nevertheless.His Don is making heads turn.Definitely one of the most exciting directors to watch out for.
4)Rajkumar Hirani-He's a new entry.But the way his films are being lked by the people he can soon become the most liked filmmaker.Follows Hrishikesh Mukherjee style of filmmaking nad makes clean comedies with a tight script and a social message.Both his films Munnabhai Mbbs and Lage Raho have hit the jackpot.
5)Rakesh Mehra-All of them said that AKS was much ahead of his time and maker will go places.With Rang De .....he has taken hindi films to another level altogether.If everything goes well RDB might be India's official entry for the oscars.We are waiting for your next movie,Mr.Mehra.
6)Ashutosh Gowareker-Now if there is a filmmaker who makes films for the INDIANS with a strong social message,it has to be this person.However his next film is period drama with Hrithik and Ash.
7)Anurag Basu-I am including his name as I was really moved by Gangster.I went to watch the film thinking it would be another gun'n sex flick from Bhatt's.But I was amazed by his handling of the subject and extracting performances from newcomers.This filmmaker is the dark horse of the industry.
8)Mohit Suri-A very good handling of a complex subject(Kalyug) coupled with another well made film(Zeher) make him an exciting filmmaker to watch.His Woh Lamhe is carrying good pre release reports.
9)Kunal kohli-If a director make Kajol make a comeback with his film and Aamir say yes to his film he must be talented.With two very contrasting films(Hum Tum and Fanaa) and both hugely successful he is sure a director to watch out for.
10)Madhur Bhandarkar-I had to keep him in the list.The way he combines entertainment with message make him one of the most sought after directors specially for the city audiences.Chandi Bar,Page3,Corporate and Signal about to release he is surely a director who knows his job.
There are others too like Pradeep Sarkar(Parineeta),Rohan Sippy(Bluffmaster),Shaad Ali(Sathiya,Bunty aur Babli),Ravi Chopra(Baghban and Baabul).The are others also.In case I have missed their name please let me know.But in any case the future looks exciting for bollywood.
