Before I start I would ike to tell you all that I have devised a new way for me to review my albums. The new layout for my reviews is below.
INTRO :
Who here is a punk fan? Do you think that the new wave of punk (Blink 182, Mest, Sum 41 etc) is crap? are you dedicated only to old skool punk (Bad Religion, Rancid and other old bands that are still going)?? Well either way, you are going to be in for a surprise with this band. They are, as far as anyone is concerned, a new skool punk band. But they aren't loke Blink or Sum 41. They can't be compared to these bands in their musical style, because they sound nothing like any of the above mentioned. They are like no other punk band. they have their own musical style and sense, and they are better for it. if they had tried to sound like Blink or any other band for that matter, they wouldn't sound very good. their own style is what makes them so different, and so brilliant. They are a breath of fresh air, and they are much needed at this point in the proceedings. They are quickly becoming, both on mine and many fellow punk fans, one of the best bands to come from the surroundings of punk.
THE BAND :
Jordan : vocals
Ian : Bass
Steve : guitar
Chad : guitar
Cyrus : drums
A lot of people will know who Ian is because of his bright red/orange/pink hair, and love for all things jolly. He is the funniest member of the group, because he is always goofing around, which is never bad!!
BACKGROUND INFO :
The band hail from Colorado Springs, California, and formed in 1997. There lyrics are ''true-to-the-heart and straight-to-the-point'' and always leave an impression on people. The band have travelled over 50,000 miles touring, but for the first year or so, they only dared tour California. They have played with the likes of MxPx, Unwritten law, The Get Up Kids and Reel Big Fish. So far they have sold 30,000 copies of 'From The Screen To Your Stereo' and 'Nothing Gold can Stay' (seperate albums, combined totals.) Their songs are mostly written by Steve (guitarist) and are about love mostly. But not in the way that Blink 182 sing about the feeling. No, this is completely different, and it is amazing.
This album, the S/T one, is actually the fourth album from this Californian 5 piece. The also released, in no particular order, 'From The Screen To Your Stereo', 'Nothing Gold Can Stay', and 'All About the Girls'. Each has that distinct New Found Glory sound, and 'Nothing Gold Can Stay' had the original version of 'Hit Or Miss' on it. It isn't as good as the later version, but then again, the later version isn't that good either!!!
TRACK LISTING :
Better Off Dead
Dressed To Kill
Sincerely Me
Hit Or Miss
Second To Last
Eyesore
Vegas
Sucker
Black And Blue
Boy Crazy
All About Her
Ballad For The Lost Romantics
There isn't really bad tracks on here, but they aren't all as good as some of the earlier ones. Some of the songs can sound a bit the same as others, but you can't expect EVERY song to sound COMPLETELY different can you??
FAVOURITE TRACKS :
Dressed To Kill
Eyesore
Sucker
Boy Crazy
I know I have only written four favourite songs, but these are the standout tracks, that sound COMPLETELY like nothing I have ever heard, and they blow me away every time I hear them...i cant get enough of them. Although all the songs on the album are about love, these ones are especially hard hitting.
Dressed To Kill : This one is a bit of a fast/slow track (as are most of the songs by NFG), and if the lyrics are to be believe, is about loving someone and not breaking up with them, and wanting to be with them, although they are with someone else.
Eyesore : as far as slow songs go, this is the slowest. It isn't a ballad, but it IS an amazing song, about (you guessed it) being in love. Doesn't that seem to be a bit of a recurring theme in NFG songs (that was a joke, because all of the NFG songs, and I mean ALL of them, ever written are BRILLIANT)
Sucker : whereas most NFG are just about being in love, this one is about being a sucker for a kiss (or so the lyrics tell me), and is a different kind of love song. Once again a bit of a fast/slow song which isn't bad at all.
Boy Crazy : This one is about how stupid girls really are, and how they think that every boy in existence is in love with them (this is not about ALL girls, just the certain few, says singer Jordan). This is not the best of the four tracks, but it does the job.
OUTRO :
All in all this album is great for any old skool/new skool punk fans. it is a nonstop punk ride, all about love. If you don't own it, then where the hell are you?!?!?! get out there and purchase it STRAIGHT AWAY!!!
