This is something that I have not been able to figure out. Why do things cost more inside the airport. A pair of samosa that one can get in a standard eating place in the city costs more inside the airport. Air fares have become cheap but the food is pricy for some odd reason. Probably some has been able to figure it out.
On a recent visit to Delhi I happened to have time to look into the contents of a shop inside the Airport (there was just one shop which sold magazines/book and misc items). I browsed through the items (was looking for a toy for my 5 year old!) and asked him to show me a toy that caught my fancy ... Doesn't work sirhe said .. I murmered to myself so that he could hear it .. why do you keep it? Finally I purchased a small toy car ... it was pricy .. but just paid for it but asked for a bill. His response we donot give bills for chinese toys and forgien choclates - I asked him why .. ofcouse he had no answer. He finally obiliged and gave me a bill for the amount he had taken for the toy .. except that the bill was for a book that I had not purchased. Something not right.
Two questions that arise. If he is not prepared to give a bill, why should that item be sold (the forgien choclates, chinese toys!). If the stuff sold are pricy because of limited space inside the airport - then why keep toys that donot work (which you can/do not sell anyway!). Sounds a bit surprising.
Probably the same is true for the food shops inside the airports. If anyone knows why the food item is more pricy inside the airport I would like to hear.
