Kurt Donald Cobain.. A name that means so much to me than just another vocalists name.. People have come and gone.. Many still live on to tell on their success stories.. But Kurt never will :) He's Dead..
For those of you who are familiar with Rock will not dare say "Who is Kurt Cobain?".. Coz if you haven't heard Nirvana.. You haven’t heard Rock. But this review is not written for Nevermind ~ Nirvana's greatest success.. Its written for Kurt..
The Diaper Days ~ The son of Don and Wendy Cobain, Kurt was born in the small town of Aberdeen, Washington on 20th February 1967. Singing at the age of 2 years, Kurt was a charismatic child. None knew what difficulties lay ahead. At the age of seven Kurt was prescribed Ritalin by a doctor ADHP. His widow Courtney Love believed that Ritalin was the major reason for his addiction to Heroin. Then came the turning point in his life. His parent divorced when Kurt was just seven. This had a huge effect on his life. He wanted a live a normal life. He couldn’t.
His Whereabouts ~ After the divorce Kurt shuffled between his mom and dad. After spending a year or so with his mother he was shifted to his father’s house. He paid for his extreme rebellious and boisterous nature. He found himself constantly changing his whereabouts between friends and “family”. Kurt was friendly with a Gay student at his school. Many believed that he was gay. Kurt claimed that he used to spray paint “GOD is Gay” and “HOMOSEX RULES”. He later stated that he felt he was definitely gay in spirit but then if he was gay then he wouldn’t have had been attracted to his wife Courtney more than anyone else on earth.
The High school Drop out ~ Kurt was a high school drop out. His mother had given him an ultimatum to either get a job or to leave the house. Once he left his “mom’s” house it was a struggle ahead. He once lived under a bridge under the Wishkah River. He worked various jobs which gave him enough money to rent an apartment. In 1987 Kurt and Krist Novoselic moved to Olympia and formed Nirvana.
Nirvana ~ Kurt had received his first guitar when he was 14. A devotee of Punk rock he also listened to greats such as Led Zeppelin and AC/DC. Convincing Novoselic wasn’t easy for Kurt. Later Krist finally agreed and hence formed Nirvana. Like most bands, Drummers were always a problem for Nirvana. Chad Canning was the initial choice of Kurt. Infact he had even recorded their first album Bleach with Chad. Later Kurt was dissatisfied with Chad’s style and hooked on David Grohl. With Grohl came one of the greatest rock albums ever.. Nevermind.
Smells like Teen Spirit, arguably Nirvana’s most famous song till date made them overnight millionaires. Kurt was extremely shocked at the following Nirvana had cause it was nothing but an outcome of his highly personal and passionate https://lyrics. What Kurt could not cope up with was fame. He once famously said “The last thing I want to be is Famous”..
After doing three times platinum Nirvana were all set to release their next album Insecticide (1992). This was the time for change. They had a million fans ahead for them as a result of Nevermind. Somehow Insecticide never enjoyed as much success as Nevermind. Apart from Sliver, Aneurysm and Dive it did not have any hits. But to the faithful, they still consider it to be Nirvana’s best work after Nevermind.Next in line was In Utero, with hits like Pennyroyal Tea, Heart Shaped Box and All Apologies it was certainly one of Nirvana’s better albums. Heart Shaped Box remains a personal favorite of mine till date. The single “Rape Me” made many stores keep In Utero out of their collection.
Next came the album that silenced Nirvana’s critics forever. It was a session in the MTV Studios in New York. With super classics like David Bowie’s The Man Who Sold The World, About A Girl, All Apologies and my all time favorite Nirvana song Where did you sleep last night this is easily my favorite Nirvana album.
The Marriage ~ Courtney Love first saw Kurt perform in 1988. It wasn’t love at first site though. After a series of dates and make outs Courtney becomes pregnant. On the 24th of February they got married on Waikiki Beach, Hawaii. Frances Bean Cobain was born on the 18th of August. Kurt jokingly named her Frances “Bean” because she looked like a bean in her sonographs. Many Kurt fans still believe that it was Courtney who married Kurt in order to get famous and capture audience for her band The Hole.
The Drug Bug ~ Kurt life was a mixture of Depression, Chronic Bronchitis and intense physical pain due to an undiagnosed chronic stomach condition. His Heroin addiction became more and more fatal as time passed. In reality his Heroin addiction was costing them photo shoots too. At New Music Seminar in NYC on July 1993, Cobain suffered a heroin overdose. Rather than calling for an ambulance, Love injected Cobain with a Narcan to bring him out of his unconscious state. That night Nirvana gave one of their most memorable performances.
The Last Days ~ Kurt last days were spent in treatment of his bronchitis problem. On March 4 he was rushed to hospital for taking drugs with champagne. After spending five days at the hospital he went back to Seattle. On March 30th he arrived at Los Angeles for re-habitation. He jumped a six-foot wall and escaped the institute and took a flight to Seattle. Over the next several days, Cobain was spotted in various locations around Seattle, but most of his friends and family were unaware of his whereabouts.
On April 8 Kurt Donald Cobain’s body was found in a spare room above the garage. The police called it a shotgun shot to the head by Kurt himself.
The Suicide or Murder? ~ The heroin level in Kurt’s blood showed that it was not possible for Kurt to pull the trigger with such high drug addiction. Tom Grant(detective) also stated that it was not possible for Kurt to shoot himself with the gun in his mouth as his arms were too short for him to pull the trigger. The only reason why people still believe that Kurt suicided was the Suicide Note. Many critics however pointed out that the style of the latter greatly varies from the opening to his last goodbye. The case is however shut and in the record books Kurt Donald Cobain suicided..
And his legacy goes on.Even years after his death people like me discover the power of his music.The power that lied within a man called Kurt Donald Cobain. As he said “It was better to Burnout than to Fade Away”.. But Kurt your music has not burned out. And you have certainly not faded away..
