Usenet is a collection of user-submitted notes or messages on various subjects that are posted to servers on a worldwide network. There are thousands of newsgroups and it is possible for you to form a new one. There are certain guidelines or netiquettes to be followed while posting to newsgroups.

First and foremost always post your message to the most relevant topic. Analyse your message and find the group that is most suited for your posting. If your message is of

interest to a specific region, then it would be better to limit your posting to that geographical region.

Become familiar with the group you are posting. Be aware of its guidelines and rules.

Remember that there are thousands of people through out the world reading your message. So do not use harsh language or say things that would hurt people. Even if you do agree with a persons view, please be polite.

Never go by the mail-id and assume that the person is talking for his organisation. People use their official mail-ids while posting messages but the thoughts expressed

are individual personal ideas.

Use a descriptive and short subject line. The subject line is what catches the eye of the reader first.

Avoid posting personal information about a person. This is not a place to bring forth personal grudges against an individual. Do not abuse anyone.

Let your message be sweet, short and brief. Do not write very long messages. The chances of people reading long messages are few when compared to messages written to the point and are brief.

Do not write in all capital letters as this makes the message unreadable. Make sure that your message is meaningful and easy to read.

Always post your message only once and avoid cross posting the same message to other groups as this is called spamming. As a result of spamming, you might even be prohibited from posting in newsgroups.
