This is a wonderful museum of Subhash Chandra Bose, whom we lovingly call Netaji.
This museum is situated in Elgin road very close to my school Julien Day School. So right from my school days I always visit this museum. This is a place I take all my friends and relatives who visits my house for a vacation and would like to do sightseeing. Everyone likes it too because of its uniqueness. The ticket charges are also quite less. This museum has also been visited by many famous people such as our beloved Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, Pranav Mukherjee, Dr Manmohan Singh, and many others.
If you wish to know more about Netaji then we must visit Netaji Bhavan , which is situated in Elgin road at the heart of Kolkata. This was the ancestral home of Netaji. This museum is now maintained by Netaji's nephew Sisir Bose.
In front of this museum we will find the antique vintage Wanderer car in which Netaji escaped from India and went to exile. After viewing this car we may enter the museum building which is build like a traditional Bengali home with long broad white pillars.
The best thing I liked about this museum is that the rooms which Netaji used are still preserved in the same way as it was before he left for exile. There are no glass barriers or any other kinds of restrictions. The visitors are free to roam about and watch different artifacts and rooms in this house. The top floor of this house has Netaji's room which he used before exile. We will get to see the clock, clothes, books, etc used by him. His bedroom has a simple cot, his medicines, a table, etc. Outside this room a pathway with footprints have been marked to show the path Netaji took out of his room to escape from Kolkata deceiving the eyes of the British Police waiting outside his house.
In other rooms we can see other things like the plates and crockery he used, his pen, his chair, etc. Different kinds of photographs are also displayed in a chronological order displaying his life and work. Most of them are quite rare and beautiful.
A lot of importance is given to the INA which is he formed. An old vedio footage of him addressing the INA squad is also displayed. An audio recording of his voice addressing the prisoners in Singapore is also quite interesting. The INA army uniform is also displayed there.
On Netaji's birthday on 23rd January a grand celebration happens here. A lot of firecrackers are also burst here.
Overall its going to be an awesome and memorable journey through Netaji's life and works if you visit Netaji Bhavan. If you are interested and inquisitive about such great men like me then you would surely love this place.
