I had written a review earlier on Nescafe Sunrise Premium. I decided to try the original -- Sunrise Extra, wondering what the fuss was all about. Here's the dope -- straight to the point Its really cheap compared to Nescafe classic.. For 50 Rs,, you will get enough coffee to last 160 cups. Its got 40% chicory. This makes the brew dark and bitter. Yes, its more bitter than Sunrise premium. I cant understand how people prefer chicory! It tastes quite detestable. Plus it isnt a stimulant. The only reason I drink tea and coffee is as a stimulant. In genral I dont like the taste of either of them. Theres no logic in buying something that not only tastes worse, but has less of a stimulating effect. I suggest staying clear of this one. I heard that people in the South of America drank pure Chicory coffee when the North cut off their Coffee supply in the civil war, which is why, to this day, they like chicory to be added to their coffee. I have so much of this stuff now that it will last me three months at least. Maybe I will actually grow to like it... Have a hope :)

Update 6/ Dec /2003:

It tastes pretty good when you use fresh milk (Nandini in Bangalore). Pour the hot milk in the cup with the coffee and sugar. Stir and then add (not hot) water. I used to prepare it a different way earlier. I used to pour boiling water in the cup with the coffee and sugar and then mix cold Nescafe Tetrapak milk from the fridge.

It is either the method of preparation thats making a difference, the milk I am using or I am getting more used to this coffee :)

Anyway, if you make it this way, with Nandini milk, it tastes pretty good, actually. Since both Nandini milk and this coffee are much cheaper than the brands I used to have, it suits me fine if the two of them combined taste as good!
