What a boring movie from YRF!!!!!!!!. Review on Neal N Nikki

Neal N Nikki for me is a misdirected movie. The Chopras dont look sure whom to target with a movie like this. From the Indian point of view, this isn't a family film. Not that it is too bold a subject, but really there is nothing much in there for matured cinegoers or you to watch with your family. Its kind of a spunky, hip or today's gen film that the youths might enjoy to an extent. Although there isnt much feel-good aura about the film.

But the youth wouldn't totally identify or love it either, there are not many youngsters in India who live life like that. They dont take ''spending-the-night-together'' that coolly or loosely either. There isnt much feelings shown between the 2 protagonists involved as in Hum Tum or even Salaam Namaste, that would justify the act. And for NRIs and foreigners, ofcourse the so-called 'naughtiness' of the movie should be no big deal. A repeat-telecast of a Friends episode can be bolder, funnier and a hell lot more entertaining.

Guess, who is the movie targeted at, with all its naughtiness? No its not the front benchers either. Bollywood audiences isnt that sex-starved (sorry...kissing-and-bikini-starved) anymore, there needs to be a better story. Yes, agreed. There is a good amount of heavy-duty smooching and a lot of swim suits, by current Indian standards (which again is raising the bar every friday). But all that is hardly sensuous, and far from sexy. And for lust's sake, Tanisha aint no Mallika!! So, nope. The people who loved Murder wont necessarily love Neal N Nikki.

But if one looks at the movie in general, the target audience and the expectations from YRF notwithstanding, Neal N Nikki is worth a watch. We have seen poorer YRF films become hits in the last couple of years. In fact the second half is quite good, atleast a lot better than the aimless first half. Although, you wouldnt gain or lose much if you choose to step into the theater and watch the movie. Thats why the 5/10 rating!!

I wont divulge the story, coz there isnt much of it. Getting into the performances, Uday Chopra is hopeless. Although the guy has got a decent comic timing, he is just not capable of pulling a film on his shoulders. Correction: Not even a scene, forget a film. If he has to be an actor, and YRF has to give him breaks and we have to see him.... better see him in Dhoom 2, 3, 4, 5..... I just hope he has some good genes in him, that will make him useful behind the camera some day (as a good director or a better spot boy).

Talking of good genes, couldnt see much of that in Tanisha either. She screams well, and looks interesting when trying to look drunk . Gotta do something seriously about her styling. Doesn't look a proper tom boy, nor an elegant lady. Its kind of a straight-out-of-bed look throughout. But yes, I would like to give her a benefit of doubt, lookswise though... just remembering how Kajol transformed into a lovely swan from being an ugly duckling in her earlier days. But thats not a possibility with Uday. I could already see his hair-stylist's hardwork in trying to cover up the bald.

So I wonder, what made such a highly regarded production house like YRF, choose such a film. Box Office collection looks quite doubtful. But I reiterate, its worth a one-time watch... for the 2nd half only. In fact you can just watch the second half as a separate show. Believe me, you wont miss anything.
