Took my 5 year old to the Delhi Zoo past weekend and honestly, i'm not disappointed.
I'm not saying that it's perfect as it still needs improvements in terms of safety/security and the content i.e. animals however it's not bad either considering that Delhi kids have no other option to enjoy such privileges.
The location is excellent(very near to India Gate/Pragati Maidan) and the parking space huge. We went on a weekend which was overloaded with families and schools equally and there was still space to park hundreds of more vehicles.
Charges are nominal:
ENTRANCE FEE(for Indian citizens):
Adults Rs. 40/-
Children(Height Under 3 ft.) Free
Children(Height 3-5 ft.) Rs. 20/-
Senior Citizen(60 Years and Above) Rs. 20/- per head
FILMING CHARGES:
Still Camera Rs. 50/- per day
Amateur Rs. 200/- per day
Beware that they may ask you to pay 200 INR for a DSLR but it all depends on their mood so stick to the fact that you are not an amateur:)
It's surprising to see the area the Park covers considering the space crunch we Delhi'ites crib upon:) But was quiet happy to see the greenery all around and contended that it exists. Considering the area, walking is sure a problem and if you're not used to long walks you may purchase tickets for battery operated vehicles right after the entry gate(once inside). It's a hop on/off service as they provide bands to identify your purchase:

Child(Between 5 -12 years) Rs. 30/-
No food/eatables allowed inside, which is perfectly OK considering people spilling around and pushing food items inside zoo cages:)
Food stalls are right outside the park(near parking) which hosts average quality/taste food and can be opted for.
Many species of animals however some important onez still missing which kids would love to see. Overall nice experience and would recommend to all parents with enthusiastic kids. If possible the administration should ban entry of young couples and college-going youngsters:) Guys what are you doing here. Let kids enjoy at least one damn' place in the entire Delhi(LOL).
