My family anf I were going to Trumbhakeshwar, a pilgrimage spot in Maharashtra.

The nearest railway station to Trumbhakeshwar is Nasik. So we decided to spend a day and night in Nasik.

Nashik or Nasik is both pilgrimage and tourist spot. River Godavari passes through Nashik. River Godavari is one of the holy rivers of the Hindus. Hindus immerse the ashes of the dead in this river.

We reached there at 3.00 am in the morning and we decided to check into a hotel.

We went to Godavari Hotel near Dwarka Circle. It is an economy hotel and was fit for us since we didn?t want to stay there for long. We slept till nine in the morning. We had our breakfast and tea in the hotel.

We have many relatives in Nasik but this was my first visit. My parents decided to go to the relatives and I and my cousins decided to explore the city.

We got into an auto rickshaw and told the driver to take us to some place where we can do shopping.

The driver took us to Shalimar Shopping Complex and charged us rupees twenty. (Rupees five per person.) The fares here are not according to meter and the fare is decided by number of persons and there is no limit to the number of persons in one auto rickshaw.

The place around Shalimar Complex had many shops. Everything from food to clothes to shoes to electronics to books was available here. We stayed there till noon.

We decided to eat vegetarian food for lunch. We sat into the rickshaw and told the driver to take us to some good restaurant. He took us to Sahiba restaurant. The restaurant is famous for non-vegetarian food but we didn?t taste any. There we ate vegetable biryani and Kashmiri Aloo with paneer stuffed in them. Oh it was so tasty. The bill was rupees two hundred. After Lunch we went to tour the city.

Nasik has many temples.

The places I visited in Nashik:

>>Kalaram Temple

It is a 200-year-old temple. The temple is got the name Kalaram because the idols of Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman are made of black stones. Kala means Black. The idols are beautifully made and dome of the temple is made out of gold.

>>Sita Caves:

This is the place where Goddess Sita stayed in the days of her exile. The opening to the cave was very narrow and I almost got stuck. The idols down there were very beautiful and there was a Shiva Ling too.

>>Hanuman Temple:

This temple has a very huge idol of Hanuman. We also saw the place where Lord Ram had cut the nose of Ravana?s sister Shoorpanakha.

>>Ram Khund

In the evening we took a bus to go to Ram Khund. The buses in Nasik are not as good as in Mumbai. This is the place where the ashes of the dead are immersed. Many people bathe here and perform pooja.

I saw only these four places at Nasik and returned to my Hotel in the evening. We had our dinner and slept. Next morning we took a taxi to Trumbakeshwar.

I would love to come here again and take a complete tour. The only thing I didn?t like here were the buses.

Nasik has a cool weather and don?t forget to take some sweet amrud (Paru, guava) for home.
