My father went to this hospital for a by pass surgery for a better life condition, but the surgery went wrong and after few days the hospital staff told us that we are lucky because he passed away under sedation! This explains what happens in the hospital regularly.

I had the worst experience in my life, from Narayana Hrudayalaya. At the most someone can go to this hospital only for diagnosis, but never go to this place for any surgery/operation. Only the facilities are good. Staff(including doctors and nurses) never value a patients life.

My experience:

  • The surgeon(Dr P.V Rao) does not visit the patient before surgery, also post surgery he does not take an effort to meet the patient's relatives. However busy a doctor is this is the basic courtesy that is expected out of a doctor!

  • Post surgery a team of doctors in ITU make contradicting statements about patient's health every time one of us(relatives) go to meet the patient

  • The ITU, have the worst set of nurses in this world. They look clueless when asked anything about the patient. They seem to be trained only to note the meter readings not NURSE

  • Pre surgery when blood samples were supposed to be collected the nurses had to be woken up by us!

  • Heights of negligence that causes endless sufferings to a patient.

  • They call a struggling patient as an IRRITANT PATIENT IN FRONT OF HIS RELATIVES.

  • Diabetics which was controlled at 110-120 goes as high as 350 on a Saturday night due to medicine given by hospital. We were asked to wait till Monday for a medicine change as main doctors were not available on weekends.

  • Dr. P.V.Rao, the attending surgeon goes on vacation when the patient is critical.

My father went there for diagnosis with Dr.George Cherian. We were able to see the doctor as per the appointment given and after tests and discussion, he redirected us to Dr.P.V.Rao. Our experience was good only till here! Dr. P.V.Rao told that my father(who had a block in the heart, but was still able to climb stairs and even play badminton for about 10-15 mins) will have a BETTER LIFE if he undergoes an open heart surgery. The doctor convinced us that the operation bears minimal risk and if the surgery is not done, he will be at risk all the time. After waiting for 3 weeks, we were given a date for the surgery. On the day before date of admission, we called up Dr. P.V.Rao's secretary and she informed that the doctor is on VACATION!

They did not even show the courtesy to let us know about the change in plans. After waiting for some more time we were given another date. After admission to hospital also the date of surgery was kept postponing and Dr.P.V.Rao did not come even once to visit my father before surgery though some junior doctors did show up.

After surgery Dr.P.V.Rao or even any junior doctor did not meet any of the relatives or inform about the patient's condition, which was the least expected from them. Only when we visited the ITU, some nurses informed my father is doing good and will be shifted to ward in 2 days. On 3rd day when my brother told that he wants to meet the surgeon, he was informed that due to some emergency in ITU, doctor is not even seeing the patients. On the same night, my father had an arrest and he recovered from that. After continuously requesting for 3 days Dr. P.V.Rao agreed to meet us and where he made contradicting statements. He told that my father's heart was stable till then after surgery and the cardiac output was good, (when we knew that he had an arrest after surgery). He told the other organs may fail if ventilator and other supports are not removed before long. But the doctors refused to remove the ventilator support. They gave a strange reason that my father cannot put that effort to breath. They contradicted their own statement saying once that he is breathing by his own, along with ventilator!(Then what effort they were trying to minimize). Each day different doctors explained my fathers condition to us, and they all contradicted each other. Dr. P.V.Rao told the heart is stable while other doctors told the heart is weak and LV is not responding properly, where the surgery happened.

Many times when I visited ITU, my father was continuously struggling on the bed. He was not able to express anything as ventilator was put in his mouth and his hands were tied to the bed, (for the ease of nurses because it seems he was vigorously moving it probably because of stiffness he was having). After I waited for 15-20 mins only some nurse came near the bed. They were least bothered about the condition of my father and on weekends there were some nurses who were attending my father who are totally clueless on why they are even in the hospital. My father got his limbs except left hand paralyzed on a day as they gave sedative overdose in night.

On 7th day after surgery we were informed that my father's kidneys were not working and he went to a much critical state. Then he was put to dialysis, post that Dr.P.V Rao again went on vacation without informing us.( He was heading the discussions on treatment for my father. He took vacation when his patient was in a critical state.) After 2 days my father passed away.

The hospital admin in fact told us while we were waiting for my father's body that we are lucky because he passed away when under sedation!(her logic was that he never felt the pain because of the same) How much more insensitive can you expect!

He had gone down for the surgery expecting a better life and look at what happened. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL. I lost my peace of mind for my full life. May this not happen to anyone else.
