Well we finally did it!for a short yet historic period in indian motorsport history(?????) we actually managed to get one of our own into what can only be described as the stage for elite of the elite...the world of formula 1.
short lived as it may seem at the moment,for narain's return to the''show''looks a little bleak at the moment, it was a very proud season for us indians who saw one of our own competing alongside the likes of the schumi brothers,Fernando alonso,kimi raikkonen,David coulthard ,jp Montoya and the rest of the grid.
and if the opinions of commentators is anything to go by,narain did a very creditable job for Jordan. In fact his fault at the start of the season may only have been to try too hard!
Jordan isnt exactly what you would call a ''top notch''team either. He had more technical problems than driving errors during the season. I mean, the 5 times that he retired during the past season,4 times it was a technical fault.twice the electrical system blew up(in britain and bahrain),in canada it was the suspension and in monaco, it was the hydraulics.Yes, in china he had an accident. but the statistics show for themselves that in all fairness,narain in a better car would show far better results.
ofcourse the cynics are now saying that could be true for every other rookie driver in the formula 1,but did you know that it was also said during the season that out of the rookies that joined F1 the last season,there were 5 in all, narain was credited to be the one who was ‘trying’ the most.
Of course there was other trouble within team Jordan between narain and the management over apparently what was made out to be narains unprofessional behaviour.
He wasn’t happy with the set up of his car which didn’t match his driving style and the management was unhappy with his lack of “team spirit” I think they called it.
Anyhow now that the season is over and narain has unfortunately lost his seat in the Jordan EJ15,we all can only hope and pray that the testing he is currently doing with Williams pays off(he is doing great by the way,he out paced their race driver, mark rosberg on the 13th of dec) and we find ourselves witnessing narain with his patriotic helmet, once again racing against the best of the best of the formula one.
and if doesnt then we'll just have to remember- ''Pain heals,chics dig scars, and GLORY lasts forever.''
