To an extent, NAMASTEY LONDON is inspired by the Manoj Kumar starrer PUP and the film does not have much novelty in terms of story line but the director Vipul Shah has treated it with a rare maturity and the outcome is simply fantastic.

The film starts with Akshay getting married to Katrina .But just when I had concluded that NL is one of those routine movies thre is a surprise in the store .Cut to the flashback, Katrina is a spoilt daughter of rich NRI Rishi Kapoor living in UK london.Frustrated by her behavious he plans her marriage to a farmer in Punjab [Akshay Kumar]

The scenes that follow, are truly romantic and in sync with the theme of the film. The film adopts an unexpected path when Katrina reveals her true identity minutes after the interval. Normally, in most cases, the film runs out of the steam, but not in NAMASTEY LONDON. And that's exactly the reason that sustains the viewer's interest.

The film has several strong points; those that stand out and deserve a mention. Some instances:-

  • The performances of Akshay and Katrina;

  • The comedy scenes involving Katrina and her misery in the village of Punjab;

  • Himesh's melodious music;

  • The panoramic locations of UK, which add to the visual appeal.

Not that the film doesn't have its share of drawbacks. First and foremost, the film is extremely lengthy in both the halves. A few sequences in the first half and at least two songs in the second half, can easily be deleted to make the proceedings concise.

Even the climax, which is delightful has been stretched too much. Director Vipul's work is truly inspiring for most of the part. He handles the dramatic scenes with maturity, displaying a flair for subjects that have ample scope for romance and emotions.

Music is ear pleasing. The numbers that make pleasant listening are'Chanka' and'Rafta Rafta'; the latter is the best song of this enterprise. The picturisation of both the songs deserve special mention. Dialogues are beautiful and go well with the mood of the film. Cinematography is first-rate. The locales of UK make the film rich and add gloss in its visual appeal.

In a role that was difficult to portray, Katrina takes Jazz, like a fish takes to water. She enacts the role without going overboard which is the sign of a refined performer. Akshay looks great, dances with grace and performs well. Rishi Kapoor, Upen Patel and Jaweid Sheikh  impress. Overall NAMASTEY LONDON is well made flick but the release on the World cup eve  may throw a spanner in its box-office prospects.
