Masala Packed Entertainer... Review on Naksha

Hi friends,

Back with another movie review. In fact I would have posted the review last night itself immediately after I watched the movie, but the power failure stopped me from doing so.

Not that Naksha is some kind of a masterpiece or a path breaking experiment. It sure has a novel plot but what makes Naksha work is the full tadka of masala entertainment.

Plot:

Though for some, the plot might remind of Indiana Jones genre of movies (Its definitely nowhere in resemblance to "National Treasure" or "Rundown" for those who think so). However, the Indian Mythology factor has been gelled so well into the storyline, it gives the movie a definitely original feel.

The plot is fairly simple, Vivek somehow gets his father's working book along with a map which leads to achievement of some divine power(What power, is revealed later in the movie). And Vivek sets out on a mission to realize his deceased father's dreams.

Now there has to be a bad man, Jackie Shroff in this case, who wants that map to attain the power to satisfy his evil intentions. So he and his men try to get that map from Vivek.

In Vivek's journey are his two partners, Sunny Deol as his half brother and Sameera Reddy who becomes Vivek's love interest.

And, as can be predicted, good wins over evil. So whats so great about it.

Direction:

A novel plot doesn't guarantee a good movie. Its the execution that makes the idea work. Sachin Bajaj definitely does a commendable job and the work definitely doesn't seem like that of a debutant.

The film has been shot stylishly and the locales of Himalayas are a treat to the eyes. The story unfolds at a brisk pace and leaving apart the unnecessary item song, the pace never slows down.

Such a genre of movies requires a hefty dose of special effects and Naksha definitely doesn't disappoint you on this front either. If you take some scenes towards the climax a little lineantly, the rest of the sequences are top notch. Scenes like the jump from the cliff and the rafting sequence are brilliantly done.

Performances:

Vivek Oberoi as the male lead delivers a decent performance. He acts well, dances pretty well and is good in the action sequences as well. Overall a good performance.

Sunny Deol, definitely adds to the star quotient of the film. Nothing much to act though, he makes his impact felt. His entry scene and the sequence where he fights the dwarfs in the jungle are bound to get him the seetis and taalis of the janta.

Sameera Reddy has nothing much to do in the film. She is there just to add to the glamour quotient. And she does and okay job with it.

Jackie Shroff is excellent as the evil man. This performance is definitely his best in the past many years. He looks his part and delivers a noteworthy performance.

Other characters dont require a mention. Navni Parihar and Suhasini Mule as the protagonists' mothers are adequate.

Music:

Pritam's music is easy on ears and gels well with the mood of the film. However the outdoor item number which is highly forgettable was equally unnecesaary. Songs that call for a foor tap are " U n I" and "Mere aake lag jaa".
