I have a personal suggestion to all the Hill Station rather Natural Beauty Lovers, In case if you are planniing for Nainitaal, give a shot to nearby places like Ramgarh or Mukteshwar. Ramgarh is approx 50 kms from Nainitaal and Mukteshwar is 75 kms from Nainitaal (25 kms from Ramgarh). These two are, I felt, more beautiful, calm then the main Nainitaal. Mukteshwar is at more height and 1 and if its a sunny day, the K2 (if I remember correctly) mountain ranges are visible. These places are non-commercial comparing to the main but offers more fun, closes with the nature. Since Nainitaal is just 50 kms away, one can spend a day or daytime there.
Avoid during extreme winters.
Please make sure that you have your own vehicle or hired taxi otherwise may not be able to enjoy properly. While going, there is a diversion after Kathgodam and it goes directly to Ramgarh saves you from Nainital crowd.
