Starting with my personal experience place called Naintal.I started with bike from Haldwani which is 35 km Approx from Nainital however last railway station is Kathgodam . u can step down in haldwani also from where you can hire private taxi .
In my review I include the places to visit and local cuisine which can be tasted.
In Nainital the best time to visit according to me is from April to June to chill out in hot summers and in winter if u are looking for snowfall is December end and Jan.

Local cuisine
In tibbite market u can find Momos and thuppa which can be tasted and make some local people friend and can get excess to pahari dishes like Bhatt ki churkani, Bhatt ka jula, Ras - Bhat, Madve ki roti
In summer u find local fruits also try them also

Hotel are good and can find deal in travel app available, try to book near to naini lake so you have excess to lake easily and can get beautiful view of Lake in light
