One truly, hyped up film, these days is ”Naina”-a film whose trailors are telecasted about ten times in a minute and whenever you switch on your television, you can see the film`s trailor.Well, there is no reason why this film shouldn`t have been hyped up.It brings back to us Urmila Matondkar, the actress who had disappeared after giving excellent performances in ”Bhoot”,”Tehzeeb”,”Pinjar” and of course,”Ek Haseena Thi”.Then, the film promises to be a spine-chilling thriller with excellent special effects, never witnessed in Bollywood, ever before and last but not the least, this film was given lots of importance as it was premiered at Cannes.Well, here you will get to know how the film has turned out to be.

Idream Productions. ”Naina”,directed by Shripal Morakhia, stars Urmila Matondkar,Anuj Sawhney,Shweta Konnur,Kamini Khanna and Sulbha Arya. This movie is said to be very different from other Bollywood horror flicks, which would definitely scare the hell out of the viewers.Does it live upto the sky-high expectations?

The film tells the story about Naina (Urmila Matondkar),who lives in London and when she was a child, she went out on a drive with her parents. On that drive, she unfortunately, met with an accident, due to which she lost her parents and her eye sight.Even after 20 years from that incident, she remains blind but one day,she gets a cornea implant, due to which her eye sight is back.World looks very different to Naina, who had remained in darkness since 20 years, and it doesn`t take too fast for her to get used to watching through her eyes. She is still used to closing her eyes and identifying where a certain place is but little does she know that when she will open her eyes, she will have to encounter with dead people.Naina`s life becomes miserable due to the cornea implant.Very strange things start to happen with her.She starts watching dead people. She has actual encounters with them and this scares Naina a lot.She tells her problem to he grandmother (Kamini Khanna) and to even Dr.Sameer Patel (Anuj Sawhney),a psychiatrist who becomes a very good friend of hers, but nobody trusts Naina.Sameer feels that Naina gets illusions and this is all her imagination. As no one trusts Naina, she alone has to solve this mystery now and so after going through so many tortures she finally gets to know about this mystery. She gets to know about Khemi (Shweta Konnur),who was born in Gujarat on the night of a lunar eclipse. Her brith was something really terrifying. She had all blood on her and she was about to die when she finally opened her eyes and managed to live on.Khemi could see dead people and she could also predict who would die, before a person`s death.Naina learns that she had been given Khemi`s eyes in the cornea implant. What will Naina do now? Will she keep on living such a dreadful and horrifying life, where she has to meet dead people and get so many shocks? Can`t she ever get rid of this problem?

Urmila Matondkar shines in this film,as usual.”Naina” had not been what it is without Urmila. No other actress could have done justice to this role,as Urmila has done. After ”Bhoot”,”Pinjar”,”Ek Haseena Thi”,etc. this is another feather in the actresses` cap.The scenes where she starts seeing dead people and when she starts getting afraid of them, show that Urmila is one of the best actress Bollywood has produced. If you think that this is ”Bhoot-Part 2”,then you`re mistaken.Urmila doesn`t do the “Bhoot” act once again, this time she is very different but equally brilliant.Let`s hope to see more of this talented actress in the near future.

Anuj Sawhney-they guy who was seen in ”Nayee Padosan” and ”Fun2shh”,is back with a bang, this time in a better film and in a better role, with definitely a better peformance.Though, the hero of the film is Urmila Matondkar but even he leaves a good impression on the viewers.

Kamini Khanna,as Naina`s granny overacts.Shweta Konnur as Khemi, impresses and does an excellent job.Others are just about okay and lend able support.

Shripal Morakhia is a new director who has done a failry good job, with this film. The director has managed to provide the viewers with some chills and thrills. There are some interesting sequences such as the birth scene of Khemi. Then, the scene where Naina gets her eye sight back and when she starts encountering with dead people, are very gripping. The scenes in the second half when Naina gets to know about Khemi will keep your interest alive but now let`s come to the flip side.First of all,the film is too imaginary and people who do not believe in the supernatural will find it too hard to digest the incidents that take place in the film.First of all, some ghosts, which are shown in the film, look too animated and it seems that they are wearing a mask that has been bough from a toy store.Secondly, some sequences are just too,too unrealistic.Like,Naina`s underwater sequence, which is picturised beautifully with amazing special effects, would still sound silly and stupid to some people, while the others who get easily scared by such make-belief incidents, will find it chilling.Secondly, the climax will meet wih mixed reactions. The explosion of buildings and streets of London, etc.will seem way too unrealistic to many viewers.Screenplay is gripping and there is no doubt that your eyes will constantly be looking at the screen, because each incident that will take place in the film,is intriguing. Some people will get scared while others will laugh, but there is no doubt that no one will be able to avoid the thrilling scenes.Salim-Sulaiman are the second heroes of the film, after Urmila Matondkar.Their background music is one of the best ever produced in Bollywood, for a horror film.More than the dead people, ghosts and spirits,in the film, the background music is the main villain of the film, that will scare the daylights out of you.Special effects are amazing and actually, the best effects,a viewer has ever witnessed on the Indian film screen. The special effects show how much of hard work has gone behind it.Editing is okay.Luckily, there are no songs in this film, and so the film moves at a good pace but some sequences such as the climax, drag a lot.

On the whole,”Naina” has definitely its share of flaws but there is no doubt that it has some interesting moments and thrilling sequences which result in an entertaining viewing. It is better than the recent craps such as ”Main Aisa Hi Hoon” and ”Jo Bole So Nihaal”,so you can easily watch it.Watch it for at least,Urmila`s bravura performance and of course,Salim-Sulaiman`s fantastic background music!
