Naan Kadavul or Naan Pichakaari

Friday was the day when Naan Kadavul first hit the screens and the reviews from various sources started pouring in and flooding my mailbox...

The keywords that were seen among the reviews were: Amazing.., Awesome.., Bala.., Aghori.., Arya.., etc. This kind of thrilled me and I decide to go watch this movie the same day it got released. Booked 2nd show and started early from office to watch this movie which had really become the talk of the day.

After I came out of the cinema I decided to write my first ever review on a movie, the reason being that I experienced something totally opposite of what I had been reading on the reviews the whole of the day. Yes, you heard it right, the movie is nowhere near to the keywords that were mentioned above.

The movie starts with scenes from kaasi and a kaasi pundit family, whom the father of Arya find out very easily because of the pundit's reputation. (the pundit also speaks good Tamil, I am little okay with it because after all it is a tamil movie), the pundit help the dad find his son, the very smart dad just by one look recognizes his son whom he did not see for 14yrs.. I thank the director for not wasting our time, something which he adhered to in the climax of the movie too, but failed miserably in between the begin and 'the end'.

Arya, an Aghori is brought to the village, as a resident among the common people unlike how it was for him back home in kasi. this is the time when I started thinking that now the characteristics of an aghori will be revealed and the movie will get interesting, but for the surprise of everyone the beggars come into picture.. then the director somehow fails to focus on the the 'Aghori' and the main theme rather the title 'Naan Kadavul - Aham Bhrahmasmi' and starts to show the lifestyle of the beggars..

Up to a certain point it was fine.. but then could no longer tolerate when that same continued for another 1hr 30 mins. Just because the heroine happens to be a beggar we were tortured to see the lifestyle of beggars more that the lifestyle of an aghori who in fact is 'The Hero'.

The thought that was constantly running in the back of my mind was how are they going to link the beggar and the aghori.. finally it was linked in such a pathetic way that I never expected from a director like Bala.

The 2hr 20 mins finally ends after a very revolting climax and when we turn back and look the movie was just a bunch or disgusting incidents put together with no focus on the main character of the movie.'Om Shivoham' in the background is the only reason that keeps you glued to the seats for more than 2 hrs, else I am sure the pantry and the smoking area would have been choked with people.

On the whole movie was given a very false hype and the director did not live up to it. The movie would have got a good review from me if the movie had been named 'Naan Pichakaari‘ instead of 'Naan Kadavul', but the question is would anybody go watch the movie with such a title, now I understand why bala named it like this.

Keep Watching .. Keep reviewing

Thanks,
