Muthoot Cardamom county is an awesome place to spend your holiday. If you are a wildlife enthusist like me then this is the place for you. Excellent food and great service did create a great ambience for me and my family. This resort gains top marks in my books. superb value for money and we will never forget the 2 days we spent there. I have traveled across the country and have stayed at many resorts and hotels, there is something special about this place. whether it be the natural way in which this resort has been maintained or the superb way in which the staff makes you feel at home. my wife and kids just adored the place and our only regret was that we had not made plans to stay longer there.
The resort is opposite the periyar tiger reserve(india's best preserved tiger sanctuary) and from the rooms you get a super view into the forest and the surrounding hills. don't forget to ask for a county room with a view into the forest. The resort itself sports some wildlife due to the naturality of the place. there are monkeys (a bit annoying sometimes), bats, amazing variety of birds, butterflies and some civets that inhabit the place along with the guests. treks into the forest reserve need to be booked in advance but its worth every penny if you are a wildlife enthusiast. there is a boating trip on the periyar lake as well although I would recommend the bamboo rafting trip as being more unique and u will have a better chance of seeing a variety of wildlife than on the noisy diesel boats. bit on the expensive side but worth every bit.
The only issue with the place was that it was a bit far from cochin city (3.5 hr drive) but the route is scenic as the resort is located in the idukki hills and is roughly 2, 500 ft above sea level. the drive up is not steep and is very gradual unlike other hill stations so it takes a bit longer but atleast it wont make u car sick :)
