Sanjay Dutt is back as a producer with ?Musafir? after a hit ?Kaante? and a flop ?Plan?.His latest film ?Musafir? was announced during the IIFA Awards 2004,and it became one of the most awaited film of the year.The film became a talk of the town,when the news of Anil Kapoor`s and Sameera Reddy`s smooch had spread.Just like a typical Sanjay Gupta even this film has lots of action,style and of course,sex and skin show.With all these ingredients,does the film succeed?

White Feather Films.?Musafir?,directed by Sanjay Gupta,stars Sanjay Dutt,Anil Kapoor,Sameera Reddy,Mahesh Manjrekar,Koena Mitra and Aditya Panscholi.The Sanjay Dutt-Sanjay Gupta team is back with this film.Will they recreate the magic of ?Kaante??
THE CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES:
1.Lucky(Anil Kapoor):Lucky is a very unlucky person.He has spent his whole life committing crimes and going to the jail but as he dreams of quitting all this,his life again takes a turn and get him back to where he was.Anil Kapoor comes back on the silver screen after a very long time.We saw him last time in ?Calcutta Mail? (2003).The actor is back in form and reminds us of the old days,when he was the most happening star of Bollywood.
He has given an excellent performance in this film.He performs very well,in the scene when he comes to know the truth about his girlfriend Tara,`s truth.He is also excellent in the scenes he has with Sanjay Dutt.From the start of the film till the end,the film completely belongs to him and he more than justifies Lucky`s character.Now let`s wait to see him in the forthcoming film ?Bewafaa?.
2.Billa(Sanjay Dutt):Billa is one such don whom everyone fears,even a criminal like Lucky.Billa is powerful,strong,stone-hearted and a killer,who through his gun,can kill anyone at anytime.Sanjay Dutt,doesn`t have much to do in the first half and he gets most of the footage in the second half,especially towards the climax,where is simply amazing.His dialogue delivery and face expressions are superb and his whole get up in the film is very stylish,which will set a new trend,in the coming days.
3.Sam(Sameera Reddy):Sam is a very mysterious woman,who has gone through lots of difficulties in her life.She is always on the run as her husband is after her life.Sameera Reddy gives a very confident performance.She is excellent in the scene,in which she gives an offer to Lucky.She will definitely make it very big in Bollywood,in the coming days.There is also lots of skin show by this lady,which will surely bring lots of heat.
4.Looka(Mahesh Manjrekar):Looka is Sam`s husband who wants her dead,as she runs away from his house.He is one such husband who humiliates his wife and now wants Lucky to kill her.Mahesh Manjrekar also does a good job,as the evil and stone-hearted Looka.His lines are really witty and the way he delivers his dialogues is clapworthy.
Koena Mitra looks sexy,beautiful and smart,but she doesn`t know acting,at all.Aditya Panscholi as the corrupt cop is very good and lends able support.
THE STORY:
The film revolves around Lucky,who is a very unlucky person,unlike his name.He has spent his whole life in jails because of his occupation-he is a criminal.Now,this is the last time that he is going to commit a crime.He has to kill one of the man of Billa`s gang.After that,Lucky dreams of getting married to his girlfriend Tara,and living a peaceful life,but after sometime Lucky gets to know,that Tara was actually a fraud and she is on Billa`s side.Billa is a don,whom everyone fears.
For him,killing a person is a child`s play.Billa,takes revenge and kill four partners of Lucky in return.When Billa is going to kill Lucky,Lucky asks Billa not to kill him and tells Billa that he might help him,so Billa believes Lucky and sends him to Goa to deliver drugs.There,at Goa,Lucky meets Sam,who has a horrifying past.She has escaped from the prison,of her husband Looka,who was earlier married to her sister,but as Looka started to like her,he killed his own wife and got married to Sam.
This meeting brings both Sam and Lucky close,and they actually start getting attracted towards each other.Problems arise,when Lucky looses the money which he got from selling the drugs,and for that reason Billa is out to kill him,and has come to Goa.The only way,now Lucky can get money is by killing Sam,as her husband Looka asks Lucky to kill her.
On the other hand,Sam also gives an idea to Lucky,that he can loot Looka and can run away,but at least leave her alone.So,when Lucky goes to Looka`s house,Looka is dead.Everybody suspects Lucky of killing Looka and as a result,Lucky`s life is in a big problem.On one side,there is Billa who wants to kill him,while on the other hand Looka`s brother is after Lucky`s life.What will happen?Will Lucky be able to save his life?Who killed Looka?
THE WORK OF THE CREW:
Sanjay Gupta`s direction is excellent!He has managed to extract excellent peorformances from his star cast and there are some really gripping scenes in the film,as well.The scene,where Lucky and Billa come face to face for the first time and Lucky gets to know Tara`s truth is very interesting.Then,when Lucky meets Sam and gets to know about her past gets the attention of the viewers.
The scene,when Lucky finds out Looka dead and when the identity of Looka`s murder is disclosed further enhances the drama.The climax is also fantastic!Screenplay is gripping and though there are some flaws,they can still be easily avoided.This thing that why Looka wants to kill Sam,is not defined well,and remains a mystery till the end.
Also,Billa who is so strong and intelligent,his character seems to be half-baked but Sanjay Dutt makes it up with a good performance.Script is very well-written.There are constant twists and turns in the film,which will catch you unaware.Editing is good,but the second half drags a lot.
The climax also,though very well executed could have been trimmed down a bit.Cinematography is of first class quality.The camera effects,the colours and special effects are all of international standard.
Anand Raj Anand`s and Vishal-Shekhar`s music is also very good.?Ishq Kabhi kariyo Na?,picturised on Sameera Reddy is very well choreographed and very well picturised as well.?Saakhi Saakhi? performed by Koena Mitra and Sanjay Dutt is excellent and Koena performs very well,in this song.?Rabba?,a sad song picturised on Anil Kapoor and Sameera Reddy has a very stylish look to it.
ON THE WHOLE:
''Musafir'' is undoubtedly,a very well-made film.It is definitely not for the family audiences as there is lots of sex and violence in the film,but for those looking for a slick action thriller,this film is a treat.The film has excellent performances and some really unpredictable twists and turns which will kepp you hooked on to the screen,so give it a watch.It`s worth your hard-earned money!
