Sensual, erotic and plagiarism!

Originality:

This movie has created a lot of sparks because the heroine, Mallika Sherawat, is seen half-naked in many scenes. The movie is produced by Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt and directed by Anurag Basu. Music is by their favourite Anu Malik. Lyrics are by Sayeed Quadri and Rahat Indori. Anu Malik always keeps up the good music with the Bhatts’ but this time, there was something more. He did more than his usual best. Making a semi-erotic movie requires a different music ; something sensual, relaxing and pleasing. He came up with the right notes.

One thing about this album is orchestration and the experimentation with sounds, voices and melody. Anu Malik uses a lot of instruments and does it very well. Do not expect Udit Narayan or Alka Yagnik in this album. Do not expect a title song called ‘Murder’. There is much more. However, there are also some real surprises. Please read on.

“Kaho Naa Kaho”- Amir Jamal

Sung by Amir Jamal, this is a good song. The song carries Arabian https://lyrics. However, I would not comment more on this song. The only reason is because this song has been re-used again and is a not composition by Anu Malik. This song is featured in the Pakistani’s singer Amir Jamal 2003 album. Even Amir Jamal ripped off the song from original Arabic singer Amr Diab, there was no credit in the Pakistani’s singer album as well. So now you can see how dirty this is.

If you are confused, this is the story. Amir Jamal rips-off a song and puts it in his album. Now Amir Jamal sings the same song but music is now given by Anu Malik, who takes (or is given) the credit of the song. In Bollywood, it is the person who produces the music of the particular track who gets the credit. The original composer is no-one to producers. This is how they think. Weird!

The song is nice and no more comments!

“Bheegey Hont” - Kunal Ganjawala

After this first plagiarism (wait there is one more later!), the next song is something to look forward. This is where Anu Malik uses creativity. In many movies, he uses different voices for different storylines. In this case, he chose Kunal Ganjawala to sing this melodious number. He does a really great job. The music is very good with a sensual and light beat background. To express the erotic scenes, this song fits the bill. The song starts off beautifully and there is no over-dose of violin. Amazing lyrics here.

LATEST UPDATE (Sept 04): It was found that this song is also a copy from a Pakistani Singer named Najam Sheraz, from the album 'Pyar Karanu Dil Karda'. And the song is 'Menu Tere Naal'. What more can I say? I guess that the above paragraph becomes useless now!

“Zindagi Is Tarah”

This is a sad song but it’s a deep song. The song expresses feelings and pain. Once again the orchestration is perfect. There are two versions of this song. One is sung by Anuradha Paudwal and the other one by Sonu Nigam. The Paudwal one is much better because the voice is more suited. These songs were produced a lot in the 90s’ and it’s so nice to hear one of them again. Anyone who has gone or is going through a difficult time in love, may find themselves in this song. There are bits of tabla, sitar and violin in this one. The tune is good.

The Sonu Nigam rendition is good but fails to create the same magic like the one in ‘Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam’ - 'Sab Kucch Bula Diya’.

“Dil Ko Hazar Bar” - Alisha Chinoy

One thing is sure, Anu Malik is giving all the good songs to once-favourite Alisha Chinoy to sing. This is one of the best songs of the album. The background music is set in the 50s cabaret style but listen to it and see how good it is. Alisha’s voice blends so well and her sensuous lines really make this one really exciting. Orchestration is excellent again and the use of a variety of old instruments makes it a really pleasure to listen again and again. The song is picturized on Kashmirah Shah. Alisha is back in form and more good songs from her are eagerly awaited now.

“Jaana”- Amir Jamal

Sung again by Amir Jamal, I couldn’t believe that this song is also a copy! When you have two songs in an album which are straight lifts, it is really serious. Who is to be blamed? In certain cases, the producers are to be blamed. I believe they had the songs ready. This song is basically a pop-song. The music is average and the singing is ‘so-so’. However this song is shadowed by better compositions like ‘Bheegey Hont’ and “Dil Ko Hazar Bar”. This song is just filling the album. The song is originally from a popular Bangaldeshi band called 'Miles' and it is a Bengali pop song titled 'Firiye Dao' from the album 'Prottasha'

The album ends up with instrumental versions of 'Bheegey Hont' and ‘Kaho Naa Kaho’

Anu Malik comes up with an album with good songs but with surprises. The movie is making good business and no-one seems to care about these two straight lifts. People are more interested in the skin of Mallika Sherawat. The music is really helpful in expressing the emotional, sensual and semi-erotic scenes. Using different voices, this album is very much different from previous Anu Malik’s soundtracks.
