- First, a happy new year to you all MSers. I know its late, but then better late than never ;)
When was the last time you fell off the chair laughing? Or at least the last time you had a hearty laugh? Or when was the last time you saw a movie and felt so good about your ownself. Something that taught you to value and respect yourself because you are the only one of your kind. There is nothing like you in this whole world.
Ok, now when was the time you were moved to tears and wondered at the futility before the all powerful all mighty? When the was the last time you wondered, inspite of all the advances in medical science we will never be able to cheat the biggest gamer of all, DEATH? Funny isnt it?
This movie 'Munnabhai MBBS' is about a don who wants to be a doctor and gets into a medical college too with hilarious consequences. The story is as simple as this. And the irony is this is not at all the story. This is the story of how a Don teaches the people how to live. Paradoxy aint it? A don who specializes in breaking bones teaches doctors how to live? He teaches them how to behave with patients.
But maybe thats the way life is. We get so engrossed in our careers, that we forget that we deal with people, people for whom a small simple gesture of love, or 'thank you', a smile can make a day for someone. That many of the ills of this world is not due to the illness itself but because of the lack of love.
Now to the movie. Believe me, its one of the best movies of Bollywood in recent years. No mushy-mushy love stories or the hero-heroine running around the trees or with vampish heroines ruling the roost or bare reality, nothing. Its pure entertainment. A simple feel good movie. Indian audiences have so much longed for such a movie.
Sanjay Dutt has shown that he rules the Bollywood of 2003. The king of comedy can make you cry. He will never use Jim Carreyesque antics to make you laugh, only simple plain laughter. I dont even think anyone could have etched this role better. The chemistry between Dutt Jr and Dutt Sr is awesome. Gracy Singh is really really cute. (Jaadu ki Jhappi Chaayiye. Anyone listening? I hope this line catches up soon.) And finally the Dean was the king of the movie. Forgive me for not knowing his name. He is in a class of his own.
The whole credit for this movie goes to Mr. Hirani, the director. Bole to, yeh hai ki fillum to jhakaas hai. Apun yeh bolta hai, tum sabh apne biwi bacche samet fillum ko jao, enjoy karo. Samjha kya ?
