The trouble with the Indian audiences (that includes me) is that we tend to give preference to slapstick, feel-good movies over realistic, hard-hitting films. The rhetorical questions stirr us, disturb our disturbed lives therefore .. we push them in the shadows.

Luckily for me, the preference has changed for good yet the empty cinema hall for munich was a rude wake-up call. Is romance and comedy all that is left to life ?

On a lighter note, I'd like to add that the few people (which does not include me) who did pay for the movie were couples wanting to get cosy and closssssse! Do hell with the movie...

As for me and my friend, the movie was too engrossing to take a look around (not exactly true = courtesy cosy couples .... although for most parts we were glued to the screen).

Eric Bana has this amazing quality of endearing himself to the audiences without making an attempt to do so. Be it the scene when he cooks food for his associates or when he cries when he talks to his baby or when he tells the prostitute that he can't sleep with her.

He plays the 'good guy' with complete ease. 'Troy' is another movie that establishes this.

The movie is essentially his journey, his trials and his perspective.....

Munich (Germany) hosts the Olympic games in 1972 where Palestinians hold the Israeli athletes( most of these athletes are stout and bulky... wht an irony!) as hostages and eventually kill them. Israelis are shattered and want to take their revenge. Enter Avner (Bana). He along with 4 other agents are handed over the task of hunting down the terrorists and killing them. The search of these palestinians takes them all over Europe and also to a arab nation. This chase to find the terrorists keeps you guessing... They kill 6 of the 11 terrorists but Avner loses 3 of his associates and importantly loses his peace. What follows is the unrest that makes him suspect everyone around him. How do u justify killing? Is the mission important?

His wife Daphna supports him but he cannot come back. Violence has taken it's toll....

The end takes u slightly by surprise but fits well ...It leaves no questions unanswered.

Our next James Bond Daniel Craig is a part of the squad and much to my dismay shows few qualities of a good actor. His strong american accent mocks his Israeli origin in the movie. His manner reminds u of George Clooney but he surely lacks the finesse! His sly humour puts u off....

Golda Meir has put up a great performance in her two-bit role...

Steven Spielberg churns out yet another good movie. The direction aside from being gripping focusses on the issue without deviating much. He leaves you enough time to ponder and think without hampering the pace.

I would not call it a masterpiece due to a few technical flaws but a must watch nonetheless.

Watch it if u can handle it!
