Mumbai formerly known as bombay is known as the city of dreams as many of the people from different cities and villages migrate to mumabi to make it big one day.The thing which I like about mumbai is its pace. The people are least concerned about what you are doing as long as you look confident and not stare at the buildings as if you are new.If they find you hesitating the pickpockets, brokers, and theifs are surely going to think of you as a sacrifice goat.while moving around in mumbai I would suggest a tourist to be confident and move around as if he knows the place. It is advisable to be very of all kinds of strangers and suspicious characters while asking for directions ask the college going students or the respectable and educated looking people.the mode of transport cheapest is the underground local service. It is best to take the ticket for the train before entering the station as they have regular raids to catch the ticketless travelers the problem is it is so confusing for the newcommer who can get caught on entering the station though his intention is not for ticketless travel. If you have to go long distance it is better to go by local to the nearest station and then from there he can take the taxi for example if a man wants to go to some place like x on bandra then he has to take the local to bandra and then take taxi to place x this will be cheaper and faster to move around.BE sure to find out which side east or west your destination is for every station has east and west if you get on wrong side then you will have lot of problems sometimes you will try to take short cut through station and get caught without ticket. The best advice for staying in hotel is to stay at Mohammed Ali Road

One of the hotels I would recommend is Al-Aqsa hotel just in front of Mandvi post office the hotel is not much posh but I am sure it is one of the safest hotel in mumbai. They have got a good reputation and no illegal activities and nice staff. When you stay at mohamed ali road the advantage is you can have the best of resturants to eat and shopping closeby. It is also very near to VT victoria terminus formely now know as cst from where the local as well as trains for all cities start. The resturants from mahammed ali road to bhendi bazar I would recommend are shalimar, noor mohammmedi,gulshan-e-iran and some sweetmeat by the name of aflatoon at sulaiman osman mithaiwala.Dont forget to go to gateway of india when you go there go to bademiyan ke kabab fast food and taste their kababs. For shopping the crawford market is quite nearby to mohammed ali road so is the manish market. If you prefer posh shopping areas try out bandra linking road colaba.Check out chowpatty if you like gol gappas bhel and other delicious mouth watering stuff. If you like to sit quitely go to nariman point and sit there.Be vary of strangers in mumbai dont wander into isolated places and keep your money safe specially your wallet.
