Mumbai was called as Bombay till a few years ago. Mumbai is one of the largest cities on the west coast of India with a large population running into many crores. Mumbai is also famous as the financial capital of India.

There is one International airport and one domestic airport in Mumbai. The planes there make a lot of noise! The main form of transportation for the people is by “Local Trains”. These are generally brown and creamy in colour and look like big caterpillars moving through the city. They make a lot of noise too! A lot of times, people are a collected like cattle in a pick-up truck in these trains. When it comes to road transport, many people have their own cars and 2 wheelers but a few take the busses and cabs. The busses are run by BEST and are mostly red in colour. The cabs are in black and yellow colours.

There are only 3 main roads in Mumbai and stretch across the city from end of one to another. These are Swami Vivekananda Road (S.V.Road), Western Express Highway and Eastern Express Highway. There are a lot of good beaches in Mumbai where one can get to eat Bhel Puri, Kulfi, Ice Creams, groundnuts and sand.

There are a lot of places to see in Mumbai. First is the Gateway of India built a long time ago. It is nothing but a large gate like thing but without a gate in between. Then comes the famous Dalal Street with the BSE building. Then comes the Marine Drive with a long turning road called as “Queen’s Necklace”. I don’t know which queen wears it! There are other places like “Haji Ali”, Juhu beach (ideal for tanning), water kingdom and Esselworld (entertainment parks).

The people here speak mostly in Marathi and are therefore called Maharashtrians. They read a newspaper called “Mid-day”, eat “Vada pavs” and drink “cutting chais” (tea). They are all very good and nice people. There are huge buildings in Mumbai, both commercial and residential. Mumbai also has the largest slum in the whole of Asia and it is called “Dharavi”. One can get good leather bags, belts and other spare parts here.

The night life, I’m told is very Interesting and that the city never sleeps at night. There are also a lot of time-pass places like bars and restaurants and discotheques. The girls there spend as much money as possible on trying to wear as less clothes as possible. The girls are called “chicks” in English and “mulgi” or “chavi” in the local language. The guys are all “I-want-to-be” heroes in the local movie industry called “Bollywood”. They are called “studs” or “hunks” in English and “mulga” or “chava” in the local languages.

I have been staying in Mumbai for the last 1073 days and liked every minute of it. I “Highly Recommend” Mumbai!!!
