The 26th!.A day that each one will remember always, be it the Gujarat Earthquake which happened on 26th January, the Tsunami on 26th December or the Monsoon Floods in Mumbai on 26th July!

INTRODUCTION:

The monsoons usually are a sign of prosperity and happiness but the monsoons on the 26th of July'2005 shook the whole of Mumbai and its neighbouring areas too.

There was only turbulence, haste, fear, panic, anxiety and worry on each ones faces, be it the ones witnessing the rains or their loved ones at home.Fear and panic filled the hearts and minds of soooooo many Mumbaikars.

The waters reached the highest level and even claimed soo many lives.More than 267 people were claimed dead in Mumbai alone. There was no electricity, no food, no water too!(What an irony, shortage of water due to the waters of the rains alone!).There were landslides and even stampedes.

MY EXPERIENCE:

Im of the lucky ones who did not have to witness the wrath of teh monsoons.Though I too lived a day of anxiety, horror and sorrow. My parents, my beloved one and my brother was out in the rain.

As I lay on my bed, I felt the pleasant chill of the cool raindrops on my feet dripping out of the window, unaware of the havoc that was going on down. Then my cousin who lives in Santacruz came home all dreanched and informed me that her area was flooded with water till chin-level and therefore she came over directly from college.

That moment I realized the seriousness in the situation, as my family and pal were in the low-lying areas.I panicked and tried calling each of them. The calls did not go through, each one displayed a Busy or Not Reachable response.I messaged, the messages didnt go threw.

My family was left at 1 in the afternoon and the rains started at 2.It was 5 and there was still no sign of any of them.At that time, God heard my prayer and my brother came home.It took him 2 hours to reach home from his college which is a 5-minute drive from home. All the areas were crowded and flooded. No transport was ready to leave him home.He had to walk all the way with the rain water gushing against his body.I was glad he reached.

My mother had the car which was even worse. She was at Mahim. This area was one of the Red Alert areas that day.She couldnt get the car through any of the by-lanes nor the main road, not only cause of the water but because many citizens had left their cars halfway and preferred to walk. The car started floating in the high-level water. She even witnessed people stranded on buses without any motion.People walking in chains to prevent each other from falling in the waters. She reached home however at around 11 in the night.

My father came from Haji Ali.This area is surrounded by the sea itself and the water splashed from the sea onto the roads. No transport was available.People were been washed away by the waters force. He walked home and reached at 4 in the morning the next day.

CRISIS:

The monsoons not only lay for one day but went for 3-4 days.Till date people in remote areas like Kalyan have not received electricity.

People stayed in their cars for more than 26 hours with no food nor water.

Overall more than 467 people died.

More than 5000 cattle and dogs died.

There was a loss of more than 500 crore.

Planes and trains were cancelled.

Train tracks are still deeply immersed in water.

And the best of all-The Management and BMC havent taken any measures.

CONTRIBUTION:

This incident is one of the horrific ones that Mumbai have faced. The rain level was the highest in 3 years.

Many people lost thier lives, homes, loved ones. But one can make a contribution by giving the poor food and water.

I helped too, it feels great to atleast help the needy, what if you were in their place with no food, shelter, clothes?

Make an earnest contribution.For morality!

I hope I have expressed my views with this review, I just wished to share my feelings.Do participate and help the needy.

Do leave any suggestions if any.Thanking you
