My review spans from 1987 to 2005. Ive been through about 10-12 times. I will point out the improvements, or lack thereof in the review. I have always flown in on lufthansa, a good european airline. 1st problem with this airport is the bloody smell you get when you step on to the jet way to get off the aircraft. It is that awful stink that you get in bombay at night. I am not sure what it is. Anyways it seems less and less everytime. (have I gotten used to it perhaps.) All the flights seem to arrive and come in the wee hours of the morning, when one normally sleeps, unless you're partying. Also 1 or 2 mosquitoes will always greet you personally. Those porters are very greedy fellows, they ask you for money twice what you are supposed to pay them. The immigration officials are all very serious (they never look at you or smile.) And then you go out and are hit by that smell even harder, not to mention the humidity. Departures is a little bit different. Here there can be many long lines, incompetant check in personal and of course bullying, threatening, and cajoling those damn airport security officiers. But usually its ok, although I've heard other passnegers get chewed out by the head immigration official. The seating in departures has gone from cracked plastic in 87 to a normal airport chair in 2004. there are even some recliner like chairs ther to really stretch out. Now there is a duty free store as well. They've added a couple of restruants and bars to. the bathrooms are horrible, not enough soap or toliet paper. The worstt experience is getting on the flight. WHY THE HELL CAN'T SOME INDIANS STAND PROPERLY IN A LINE AND BOARD. There is a real free for all where no regard is given to anybody. If you are going out of india to work, you should learn to behave civilly. Fortunalty they board old people and children first or iam sure that they will be trampled. After that you are on the palne and off you go
