Perfect movie. Review on Mr & Mrs Iyer

Bengali peoples generally see Art type movie after the national or academy award. I have seen this movie recently and after watching it I came to know that this film is one of the best movie of the current year selected by national juries.

The background of the movie is the violence of Gujarat after the “Godhra” incident. It is proved from the introduction of the movie. Now a days we are watching very much violence in our daily life. Gujarat riot is one of them. Not only Gujarat riot this is the picture of every riot. The movie is all about the fierceness of riot and it showed that still there are so many man in the land of animals.

::::::::Thoughts of Aparna Sen::::::::::::::::

Aparna Sen is one of the most wanted Bengali actress and today one of the best director. When she made this movie, the communal riot of Gujarat was in full flow. We see some clips of the riot on the introduction of the movie.

Her main object was to show the fierceness of communal riots and she is totally successful in her effort. She is the author of this movie and she proved her effectiveness in this section.

Mr. & Mrs. Iyer is one of those rare movies which also emphasized on the characters of side roles. Every role is very bright in this movie. The Muslim couple was totally superb in this movie. Their natural acting ability astonished many critic. The young honeymooner couple, young boys, Anjan Dutta, the young group, the spastic boy and her mother and the other bus travelers--- everybody is very natural and honest on their acting. The Hindu extremists also were looking very dangerous.

Lets talk about main roles. Rahul Bose is not a very renowned actor or famous. In this movie he is a Muslim photographer. He believes he is a creature of 21st century in which riots etc etc are very uncharacteristic. And he is very much impressive on his role.

From her first movie(“Ek je aache kanya”) Konkona Sen Sharma is very much mature actress. In her second movie “titli” with her mother and Mithun Chakrabarty she was very impressive. In this movie she had to act as a Tamil conservative Brahmin wife and she is superb in this movie. She is not very old in film industry but her intelligence in acting had focused on the role of Minaxi Ayar. Her Tamil accent is very much natural in this movie. Her sympathy for a Muslim Bengali young man is worth mentioning.

I found the award quite ironical when our Hindu and Muslim leaders are deciding the fate of Babri Masjid in 21st century.

After the Religionaisation of Indian politics it is quite comprehensive. Both Government & Opponent are emphasizing on religion. Political parties are wanting to come in power by communal backgrounds. Violence is everywhere. “Mr. & Mrs. Iyer” is an eye opener. The appeal of the movie is no doubt humanitarian. This is not just a time pass. This makes us think about the future of our country and the contradiction of complex religion and simple human manners.

I am not blaming any single political party of our country. This is bad luck of our country that still in the era of science people are not interested in the development of their country, they are concentrating on worthless religion.
