When we talk of science fiction in Bollywood then the movie that is to be ranked first in the list is Sri Devi and Anil Kapoor starrer, “Mr. India”. Mr. India was released at a time when action was at its peak. And the people wanted angry young HERO’S breaking the jaws of the villain (as in GANGA JAMUNA SARASWATI). But as always, there are trend setters and this movie marked the new era that was taken further by recent movies like KOI MIL GAYA.

 STORY IN NUTSHELL: -

Arun is a philanthropist who likes to get all orphans to his house and give them education and family. His father was a scientist who died years back. Arun is poor and in need of money badly, therefore he wants to rent a room in his house. He goes to a newspaper office for putting an advertisement and while visiting the office he happens to meet Seema, a reporter, who mistakes him to be a rowdy. Seema tries to interview him and in the process comes to know that he’s a simple man who just came here to book an ad in the paper. She is apologetic and requests him to rent his one room to her. Till here it was fine but Arun is taken aback when Seema admits that she hate kids and she’ll stay in the house only if there are no kids around. Arun needs the money badly hence he lies. She comes to stay in the house and comes to know the reality. Now she’s furious and wants her money back but money has already been used. There’re silly fights and in the meantime Arun comes to know about his father’s project through one of his father’s colleague. He given discovers an electronic gadget wearing which on your wrist you can disappear. Arun gets excited and he wants to use it for the welfare of the society.

Now comes MAGAMBO, the villain who wants to be the master of the whole world and wants to possess that electronic gadget.

Soon MOGAMBO comes to know about Mr. INDIA (ARUN), and he tries his level best to get the gadget. Now the question arises whether he’ll be able to get the gadget or not. Whether Seema will come to know who’s her heart-throb Mr. INDIA. To find the answers just go and watch the movie.

 PERFORMANCES: -

 SRI DEVI

Again she’s the one who steals most of the frames in the movie. Who can forget her seductive yet simple dance on the song “ kate nahi kat te”. She was simply amazing, her screen presence leaves you gaga. More than her beauty its her acting skills that steals your heart. Her squeaky voice doesn’t bother you much in the movie as she gives you a surprise by bringing change in her voice (don’t know how she did it). As a reporter, nothing much is shown in the movie, but she’s there to entertain you and your heart will surely skip a beat when she’ll come and throw her DUPATTA over hero’s face. What to say about her dance, She’s among the best dancers tinsel town ever had. Though Mr. India was all about Anil but with the coming of Sri, people were often heard saying that they went to watch this movie for SRI’s exotic number.

 ANIL KAPOOR

He’s as usual simple and sober. He portrayed his character so well that people took him to be philanthropist and were all in praises. He’s a good actor, no doubt, but at times he seems to bore you. His stunts look plastic. The on-screen chemistry between SRI and ANIL was well received by the audience.

 AMRISH PURI

MOGAMBO, as he’ll always be known, steals the hearts of the millions portraying the character of MOGAMBO. Who says villain can’t impress you through your acting skills, MOGAMBO is the best example. After this movie his name was on the lips of all and sundry. Only Amrish SAHAB could have done justice to this role. Worth a loud applause.

 OTHER ACTORS: -

People say its tough to get kids act in the movie and in this movie nearly a dozen kids acted and that too in the natural way. Anu Kapoor was better while Ashok Kumar was promising in his little role.

 FEW FACTS ABOUT THE MOVIE: -

• Sri had high fever during the filming of the song “KAATE NAHI KAT TE”.

• People were highly sarcastic about the success of the movie.

• With “HAWA HAWAI” KAVITA’s career was established in the industry as singer.

• People said a movie like this won’t work at all in the areas like BIHAR but it was a big hit in BIHAR.

• Everyone though the movie will create hoopla in the FILMFARE awards but, unfortunately, that year filmfare didn’t happen.

• Sri Devi became the hot property all of a sudden after the release of this movie.

• We will never forget MOGAMBO, a character who’ll live forever.

 MUSIC: -

All the songs are a fresh treat for the audience.

‘Zindagi ki yehi reet hai’, is slow and touching. It leaves you nostalgic. What to say about ‘hawa hawai’ and ‘kaate nahi kat te’, they are among the songs that will be put in the category of evergreen forever. ‘karte hain pyar’ is simple and full of fun and frolic. The ZUGALBANDI between kids and Sri is the best.

 ATTRACTIONS IN THE MOVIE: -

• Sri’s portrayal of CHARLIE CHAPLIN in the bar.

• Arun getting disappeared and alluring the protagonist.

• Sri’s seductive dance and performance.

• Lots of cute kids.

• And the last but not the least MOGAMBO.

 WHAT DO I HAVE TO SAY: -

The movie is a complete roller coaster for the lovers of funky movies. A must watch for the lovers of HINDI CINEMA.
