We went for a trip to Sri Lanka from Oct. 5-11, 2010 with our 3-year old daughter. At Colombo we were recommended by our travel agent to stay at Mt. Lavinia. This is a colonial hotel built in 1806 by a lovelorn British Governor, Sir Thomas Maitland. Situated by the sea, it is a sprawling hotel with spacious rooms facing the sea or garden.
The hotel has a private beach with sea food bay. The sea at this point is too deep for swimming. On the other side of the hotel is a public beach where the water is more shallow.
The food is excellent. Their salad spread and dessert menu is awesome. The best part of the hotel is that you can see a lot of brides around. I saw three in one day. What a location to get married. Oh my. If you are considering an exotic location for your wedding, then Mt. Lavinia is one of the places.
Service is very good, the staff are smiling and courteous at all times, even at 3am!
