Cell phones are probably the only thing that men like to boast of having the smallest...and if it can flip a 180 degrees, comes in a stainless steel body with a dark enigmatic display, fit in the palm of our right hand...yes I am still talking about cell phones!

well this phone sure enough is attractive...its been a year, perhaps a lil’ more, since I bought mine (for an amount exceeding the UN aid to several small African nations!) but even today I find the flip a very sexy tool (sexy tool...an oxymoron...defeating all practicality - a tool which is sexy!) and amongst the hoi-polloi the phone still draws the occasional short-sigh-followed-by-long-(wish-this-could-have-this)-gasp...on the whole its a nice small cute lil’ thingy and can perform most of the basic functions of a regular cell phone...

but then that’s where the good part ends...

yep that WAS the good part...

because on the other hand if you are a techno savvy then this phone will fall rather short of your expectations...the call hold and call divert is about as much and complex an operation as the phone can substantially handle...

the fax and data calls are rather faulty in terms of the software governing the phone...it is not well tested by the company and seems like a hasty release into the market...

the phone may have GPRS but to try n surf the net on this phone is like having sex in a mini cooper- you might manage but it can cause lasting injuries and is not all that enjoyable!

then the menus and phone-book are a lil time consuming, the miniscule Lilliputian buttons don’t really ease matters either...but I like the transition effect when you select a menu title...it does this fancy blinking thing before entering the sub-menu...anyways I am easily amused by such cheap thrills and probably am indirectly responsible for further funding such silly researches at Motorola inc.

the phone has predictive text but unlike nokia it does not have an interactive dictionary which adds words as one goes along subjecting the phone to profanities and vulgar names across languages and ethics! In fact typing without missing a certain letter is sooo difficult that I just call a person up rather than feel dextrously challenged with the microscopic keypad trying to send a “cute lil sms”…

However the looks of this phone protect much like a single son of doting parents- the apple of ones eye- no matter how pissed one may get at its feature, one look at its facade and all just seems to balance out!

All in all if you are one of those to-hell-with-practicality-I-want-looks type, well then you have met your heaven-sent! In fact if you get a chance to check out the recently released phone (in Europe) called “Vertus” you will see a lot of similarity…at 7500 euros(!) and weighing in at a whopping 150+ grams with a basic monochrome screen and a metal body all that phone seems capable of doing is compensating the space and weight in ones pocket that could be created by shelling out ones provident fund for two lifetimes on a bleeding phone! The Motorola v70 thankfully is lighter…just like my head must have been while purchasing it!

but you know how the human mind is a sucker for conventions and how we all by default resist change and consequently a year later, today, I find that I am pretty ''a l'aise'' with my 'albatross'!

of course I am now a sucker for a camera phone although I see no real use for it...but then I am sure if we looked for the real use in all that we buy, we would bloody well put half the world out of their jobs!!! in short when I look at what is now out in the market I seem quite passively content with my wretched V70...

however given my inclination for up-market, nouveau, absolutely overpriced and ridiculously low on practicality thingamajigs, I am now seriously contemplating what jazzy phone could I go in for next without having to unlearn all that the last year was consumed learning...suggestions are welcome...
