The Moto X Play has a 5.5 inch display with 1080p resolution, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The phone supports dual-sim functionality(Nano sim) and is also 4G enabled. On the camera front, the phone has a 21 MP primary camera(on the rear) and a 5 MP secondary camera(front-facing). The phone has your usual array of sensors, quite common on every phone these days and I won't go much into them.

The phone weighs 170g, which is a tad bit on the heavier side. though not too heavy. The phone comes equipped with 2 GB RAM and is available in two variants of internal storage(16 GB/32 GB) and also supports a microSD card of upto 128 GB capacity. The phone runs on a 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa Core processor and is powered by a 3630 mAh battery, which can go upto 30 hours of use.

In the box, you get the phone itself, a pair of earphones, a 5V charger with two female USB ports, a USB cable, quick start guide, warranty information and a SIM ejection tool. The documentation were in both Hindi and English languages as has been seen with other Motorola variants.

I have used the device for more than a month now and haven't encountered a single problem till date. No dropped calls and no crashes. I did notice a few stutters here and there, especially when I tried closing apps, but the phone regained composure pretty soon. The battery life is what I would call extraordinary. I am a moderate to heavy user as I spend quite sometime on my phone working on my blog or browsing 9GAG but more often than not the battery lasts for 1.5 days on a single charge.

The screen is quite bright and the colors are vibrant, quite a delight to look at actually. The brightness did take me by surprise(ouch!) The phone is aesthetically pleasing with a curved back and an ever so slightly noticeable curve around the edges of the screen that you wouldn't notice unless you were looking for it. or already knew was present.

The phone is loaded with Android Lollipop out of the box, which can be upgraded to Android Marshmallow, or Android M as it is popularly called, via an official over-the-air update(around 550 MB in size). As is almost customary with Motorola and Nexus devices of recent past, you get to experience a stock version of Android, which is actually quite nice and smooth.

Some people may tout the device as too large but having used a 6.44 inch Xperia Z Ultra in the past, I had no problems with the size whatsoever, though I can barely cover the entire real estate available with just one hand. But at 170 grams, the device does feel a tad bit bulky though the weight is evenly balanced, a price we have to pay for the huge battery. The device is quite thick as well.

Both the 21MP primary and the 5MP secondary cameras provide crisp photos of high resolution.

The phone has a mono speaker, which, surprisingly, is still pretty loud.

The Moto X Play comes with a few Moto features such as Voice Assistant(Kinda like Jarvis but without the AI part. It's more like a search engine according to my perspective, requires Internet to function for most tasks and often fails to recognize my voice/command. Now that's a bummer considering all the Siri-like features I had in mind.), Quick Capture(Just twist your hands twice to capture photos and also to open the camera), and my personal favorite, the Notification At A Glance Feature(The screen partially lights up when the phone detects that it is being picked up and displays the notifications if any. You can thus wake the phone without pressing a button. Just pick it up!)

The back cover has a plasticky-rubbery feel to it and provides excellent grip. The curved back as well as the curved edges make the phone quite comfortable to hold, The phone feels as sturdy as it is heavy and seems as if it could take a few falls(I haven't tried anything of that sort, luckily!:p)

One thing that disappointed me was the quality of the earphones. Though unlike many phones in the market these days, the Moto X Play comes with a earphone in the box, the earphones are just standard and the sound quality is just average. There was a noticeable difference in the sound quality when I used third-party earphones with the phone. I would have preferred in-ear earphones with a slightly better sound quality.

Albeit the phone supports turbo charging though you have to buy a turbo charger separately. A standard charger is supplied in the box.
