Motorola Milestone or Motorola A853 is one of the first Android based phones to hit the market here in India. I must say that although the experience using this phone leaves a lot to be desired this model does pack a punch.

Things you should buy this phone for:

1] Slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

2] Fluidic 3.6" capacitative touch screen which is very responsive and fun to use.

3] Android Froyo upgrade available.

4] Motonav GPS navigation application comes bundled. I use it in Mumbai and the maps are relatively current.

5] Lots of third party apps [free & paid] available in the Android market.

6] Moto helper and MotoExtra software available to sync and back up the phone to your desktop.

Things that may put you off:

1] Phone weighs more than you might want in your pocket. Partly due to the slide-out keyboard which is its USP.

2] The camera quality is thumbs down Rajeev_Vermacially in low light.

3] Like all other smart phones, the battery life is dud. As mentioned in another review here, Motonav will drain your battery in an hour and half. However, I strongly believe that the navigation app should be used with the charger on.

4] If you receive a call when using the Motonav app, the app sometimes exits and you have to start it over. Which means you have to pull over many times during your journey. Plain irritating sometimes, when you have to reach some place important without much time in hand.

I bought this phone @ 22K from the Mobile Store in Ghatkopar, R-City Mall.

There are a few problems I have been facing in the recent past:

1] The phone's orientation sensor seems to have gone crazy. Auto rotates the photos back to portrait mode when I want to view them in landscape mode.

2] Some keys on the qwerty keypad have become hard to use as I need to press them hard before it registers.

3] After upgrade to Froyo some of the apps freeze and the overall functioning of the phone has slowed down to such an extent that even while making calls there is quite some lag between pushing the call button and the call getting initiated.

Also, I think Motorola could have done away with the lower lip that protrudes from under the screen. This lip houses the microphone.
