LOOKS & DESIGN: the phone is heavy but very sleek & compact against the lunchbox N

series the phone has just a D pad no soft keys, with usual red & green keys, a WAP key & a shortcut key that can be personalized for any program in the menu

the back has a scratch free matt finish, with a 2 megapixel camera & a

small speaker, a manual key for selecting the camera focus, but no flash

the screen is 2.4 inches & the front has a very glossy finish, highly

scratch prone, cold lamination compulsory

on the left side r volume keys, an SD card slot, allowing a normal SD, micro

SD or mini SD cards, however the cover of the slot dont close tightly &

dropping the phone often flips out the memory card

below it are the music keys for forward, reverse & pause/play which are

neither embossed nor backlit & r difficult 2 operate without seeing them

on the right side is the camera key & a keypad lock key, which locks the

screen & the Dpad, preventing cheek interface, however it feels flimsy so

need to take it easy with it

neatly but tightly, requires effort, the back cover opens smoothly with a button

INTERFACE & SOWFTWARE:

This phone is a proper pocket PC with a LINUX OS. it behaves like a proper

PDA or pocket PC, with a task manager & has an intel processor

the best thing about the Linux OS is being fast & doesnt hang, yes it

does hangs sometimes, but if u take it easy it never gets stuck like nokia, of

course  it does gets stuck by vigourous clicking but pressing the red

button on the Dpad it simply restarts.

as compared to the Symbian software used in nokias, LINUX is virtually virus

proof & doesnt get corrupted like the purely java based softwares of

samsung, sony & LG

LINUX also supports java applicans that r freely available on net, lm using a

4GB memory card without any software crack, the card has just 300 mb free space

but still it didnt go slow

u can easily download games but since there r no buttons it gets tricky if u

choose for options like pause or change settings u cant exit them because of

the lack of soft keys. design element going too far

by setting up the screen font to max u can do most things without the

stylus(& it doesnt look bad)but the on screen qwerty keyboard has very

small buttons which force u2 use stylus during sms which is annoying

i lost my stylus twice & the original costs 350 rs, the phonebook memory

& sms memory r shared in the memory card, hence unlimited

the sms has a recycle bin folder, u can create ur own sms folders with

passwords

however file manager don come with recycle bin,

i have downloaded a software putting up passwords in folders

thankfully while entering or searching names in phonebook, the qwerty board

gets only alphabets which've large fingers friendly icons

the screen of the phone has 4 icons on top-program menu, contacts, sms &

calls

below it is the status bar surprisingly it doesnt show the roaming  stats

at the bottom r 3fixed icons, of sound settings, music player & video

camera, & 2 personalized icons

the music player is real player which is slow takes time to change tracks,

but supports most audio formats including mp4, wma & rm

the video playback is fantastic & videos with very poor frame speeds play

well, it plays 3gp, m4a & real video formats, its has full functions of

playlists & media info

it also has FM radio, u can store upto 30st8ns & is louder than the music

player.

u can record calls, but sadly not the radio

besides regular features it has  picsel viewer, for viewing MS office,

acrobat reader files,

notepad, business card scanner which works well,

the picture editor of this phone is worth mentioning better than the paintbrush,

Stylus makes it easy2use, nearly as good as adobe photoshop

the bluetooth supports the headsets with A2DP profile & makes a list of

last 15 devices. u can print pics & text docs directly to a printer via

bluetooth

it also has a task manager which can be used to close & switch between

programs, by pressing the red button the programs get minimised & are not

closed as in most phones

so if being fiddled by some1who clicks on too many programs it doesnt get

hang like nokias. the task manager gives a warning of the phones memory going

almost full

the USB mode has three different options viz. mass storage(by default),

modem & webcam, it can be directly used like a pen drive

the sound clarity from the earpiece during calls is just about enough, but

its very loud in handsfree, surprisingly u CANT adjust the in call volume,

however the voice clarity on the other side is amazing, landline like as my mom

says

using GPRS is easy, with the OPERAbrowser.

as in most MOTOS this phone also came with preloaded wap profiles & being a

popular phone outside india, findin web support & software compatibility is

easy

u can zoom in the text, search a word & open max of 5 different

windows, with only the browser runing the phone doesnt heat up.

holding the stylus at 1 pt for 5 secs acts like right click & u can save

pics, but cant select & copy paste the text from sites, which is a shortcoming

of OPERA browser & not the phone

MOTO hasnt included EDGE & quad band in this phone, but a software crack

called RADIO COMM has enabled EDGE & quad band

GENERAL FEATURES:

the battery back up is good, cuz touchscreen drains lots of battery,

music playback FM & player for approx 8 hrs, with frequesnt calls

GPRS drains battery pretty quick, 4 hrs approx after a complete charge

as with all moto phones the battery takes hours to charge

one irritating ascpect is that the setting 4 alarm is in the sound profiles, so

in silent mode the alarm also goes silent

the camera has good resolution & is very quick but it needs a firm hand

video recording is also good & despite having no flash the picture clarity

is good in dim lights

the internal memorey is just 8 mb but 1gb card comes bundled along(it

unofficialy supports 4gb)

sound clarity is better than nokia express music but below sony W series. on

the contrary a good pair of headphones can get some amazing results

because being a proper pocket PC the user interface may seem complicated

its not a simple phone & requires a tech headed person 2 operate
