The music phones from various brands have always targetted the youth market and almost all of the mobiles have made a mark like the Music edition from Nokia, Walkman from sony and the radical E series from Motorola. The formula has been very simple. Put in a good decent music player with support for the popular audio formats, good pair of earphones and to top it support for creating playlists, displaying album art and setting custom equalizers.

The big brands have got it right and used the formula almost perfectly in their various models. One such model from Motorola is the ROKR E6.It comes from the E series popular for the Radical Moto E2 which made waves in the music department and even now considered one of the best music phones.Moto E1 was a big disgrace for the moto fans because of its poor interface and a lot more limitations in the Itunes support.Almost all of the cons were ironed out in E2 and it turned out to be a market hit. Then came the era of Razrs and we've seen such slim phones from every brand we can name. After a small hibernation of one year moto again got back to the Music editions with the E6.

The phone is of candy bar form factor.Has a good feel to hold and has lots of things similar to the E2. So what are the new things moto has added to this phone?

E6 has a large and smooth touch screen.

No keypad but just the D pad(maybe iphone got some hints from this one).

Linux based smartphone touch screen interface that we have seen in the A series moto phones and recently in Moto ming.

Realplayer instead of Itunes player.

Good 2 Mpx camera with macro focus switch and no flash.

Document viewer with support for Adobe pdf too.

Trendy Barcode scanning and business card recognition.

Better battery for a good talktime.

So definitely when compared to E2 the phone has lots more to offer except for the absence of keypad.

Now coming to the pros and cons of the phone:

Realplayer and support for Real video format. Now you can put large videos into your phone and watch it in the brilliant screen the phone offers.

Excellent music clarity.

3.5mm audio jack.Almost any earphone can be used to listen to music thanks to the common audio jack and thank god the jack is not recessed inside the body like in the iphone.

SD memory slot and support for upto 2gb.These days a gig of memory comes upto just around 700 rupees in india.

Decent camera and macro mode. The pictures taken on the phone look very good on the phone screen. They look crisp when seen in a computer monitor but the noise is clearly evident.

Side buttons for music-on-the-go but the buttons are a little hard to press when the phone is inside your pant.

Top class motorola call quality.

Document viewer with cool zoom effects for adobe pdf.

Good multitasking thanks to the powerful processor inside.

The phone still has a long way to go to be considered a real music phone because of its slow music player.

Fewer things to customise with respect to the player like custom equalizer settings.

No album art support.

The absence of keypad makes it a lot tougher to type messages for those freaks who burn their nokia keypads typing so fast.

With a Document editor it would have been considered a complete PDA.

Battery department still has to be improved when compared to the other brands(exclude samsung)

The new interface is a welcome change for all those RAZR users as it is a little faster to use than the older moto phones but still fast is not fast enough.

Motorola has to start thinking about themes to customise the phone and an EASY way to apply them.Nokia has it, sony has it then its high time moto starts bringing it in.(exclude samsung)

The earphones that come with the box are still the same as the ones we saw in L7.Not any special music centric earphones like the ones we see in the N70 Music edition or the in-ear walkman earphones from sony ericsson.

The phone is a fashion statement as all moto phones are.The desing is top class and build quality is reliable. The speakerphone is loud enough and the ringtones are moderate but the vibrator is really strong that you will never miss a call even if you are in a rollercoaster.

For all the things the phone offers I would consider this to be a PDA and yes it has so many functions that you will keep fiddling with it for a month or two easily. You will definitely enjoy the music experience and with the A2DP support its all the more reason to go for it.

If you are a motorola/music/touch screen fanatic and can live with feeding your phone every night E6 is the phone for you.For that price its hard to get such a marvelous touch screen phone.

What you can expect from moto in the coming months will be mind blowing with the "music monster" around the corner and a few more music phones lined up.

Alternate phones to choose:

Nokia N70M or N73M

Sony ericsson Walkman series W810, W830

P.S:Nothing against samsung phones but all of them look like paris hilton and cannot survive more than a day without feeding.
