I own a Motorola EX115 and am quite satisfied with its performance. But there were some bugs which I came to know can be removed by software upgradation. I have mentioned in the review of this phone that there is no PC suite or data cable provided with it. So, I had to go to a Motorola Service Center.

I started a quest for it and finally able to get a pdf file mentioning Motorola Service Centers in India. Motorola is a big name in electronics industry but still there are very few service centers in India and there is no service center in suburban areas.

So when I came to Bhubaneswar on official duty, I decided to go to MSC. There are two service centers in Bhubaneswar as per Motorola website. But when I came to a MSC (Redington India Pvt Ltd), they informed that they no more deal with Motorola. So I had to go to second MSC.

It is named as “Smart Services” and located in Bapu Nagar (Post Office Lane). I went in that lane and was expecting a big display board indicating Motorola “M” logo and didn’t find anything like that. After lot of enquiries in nearby areas I got “Smart Services”. It was located in a house and the display is smartly written on an A4 size paper pasted on the door of a drawing room. It was the first shock.

I crossed the porch and entered the drawing room. It was a big room with two large reception counters at one end and one bench at the other. Ironically, counters were adorned with Samsung display and logo. Might be they were purchased second-handedly from a Samsung showroom. Yes, there were two large Motorola boards on one wall. I don’t know that why they didn’t put a board outside. There was no one at the reception desk. I banged there one or two times but got no response. There was an entrance beside reception counters but a big display was there mentioning “No Entry”. I have no option other then to disobey their rule.

I entered. There was a verandah and a room at the other end. A person was sitting there on computer. I am sure that he was playing games there. I called him and asked regarding Motorola. He said that the concerned person is out for lunch and will come in another half an hour. It was 3:30pm and no where seems lunchtime. I had no other option but to wait.

Finally the person arrived at around 4pm. He was not at all looks professional and educated. He was very ill dressed which does not suits to a service center ambience. I have been to Nokia care many times and quite impressed by their system. I was expecting something like that here but was shocked to see all this. You will not believe but I was nervous when I handed my mobile to that person. I was not sure that whether he can properly operate my mobile.

I enquired him that how can we check the current software version of my mobile as I wanted to make sure that whether he will upgrade the software or not. He was unable to answer me. There were few more questions which he didn’t answer. With no options, I handed my mobile to him. He went inside and came back in 3-4 minutes and said that the job is done. I have to believe him.

Even though my handset is under two years warranty, he asked me Rs 250 just for upgrading the software. It seems very illogical. Motorola is not providing online upgradation for this handset and when we are going to do that at a service centers we are being charged for that. I am not sure that whether other MSC are doing it free or not. He convinced me by saying that software is not covered under warranty.

Finally, I was out of that great place. For information, there is no improvement in my cell performance. The bugs are still there. Overall it was the worst experience I ever had at any service center.

Concluding by a suggestion that before choosing a Motorola, think once about its service centers. They may force to repent on your decision.

I request owners of Motorola Mobile Phones to comment about their experiences regarding service centers so that I can get a clear picture about it.
