Stylishly slim. Review on Motorola L71

This phone is a better version of the model Motorola SLVR L7 . The improvement includes like megapixel camera and stereo blue tooth and has retained features like the memory card slot which is hotswappable, Mp3 player, voice recorder and video capture.

This is a particuler motorala habit that they would squeeze the maximum out of the model that they know has captured the market they would relaunch the same product with some better features . cool tactics.

This phone measures the same 113.5?49?11.5 mm as the phone previously and it weighs 96 gms while with the sim card added it goes up to 100 gms. This handset has a tactile feeling and is a bit on the heavier side but the weight is comfy as while carrying it in hand it feels very comfortable and forms a fine grip and gives you a feel of solid metel.

The casing of the phone is Metallic blue, the casing does gets dirty but not so soiled and if you carry it in the pocket  it will get wiped clean by self.

KEYPADS

The Key pad of this handset is an exact replica of the model RIZR Z3, the keypad is easy to work on, the bold rubber paddings makes the typing a breeze the key pad is bathed in blue light which looks awsome all the keys are well illuminated and is easy to work  in all the environments.

DISPLAY

The display has a resolution of  176x220 pixels(30x38 mm) and can show up to 262 K colors for the catogory that L7i falls into the screen does a wonderfull job. The picure on the screen looks crisp and sharp and has a TFT technology and for this reason the screen does not fades into the sun a lot. The screen can show up to 6 text and 3 service lines at a time.

RIGHT SIDE

The right hand side of the phone sports a memory card slot which is covered firmly by a rubber flap the slot is for microSD  and hotswapping is possible.

The right hand side of the phonealso has the dedicated camera key, another thing that resides on the right hand side is the miniUSB socket for connecting charger/headset/data cable.

LEFT SIDE

The left hand side of the phone houses the "rocker volume key" and there is a standard smart button which is place below the rocker key it performs actions varying by menu you are currently in.

TOP

the top of this phone has the "sensor ambient" which turns off the back light as per the lighting conditions, Holes for a carrying strap are mounted here as well.

BACK

The back of this phone has only the lonely camera which is 1.3 MPIX.

If we remove the back cover of this phone we will be eying the 880 mAh Li-Ion battery(BK60).  as per the manufacturer it has alife of 350 hrs in standby mode and has a talk time of 6.5 hrs but as I found out with the new battery the charge lasts for around 2-3 days with standard operations that is excessive of nothing. it takes 2 hours for the battery to be rejuvinated that is charged fully. and if used in place of the MP3 player the charge can be emptied in a single day.

PHONE BOOK

*one can save 1000 names in the phone memory and for each of the entry one can have the first name, last name, nick name, phone no and has the option of storing 7 nos in a single contact. one can also enter the e-mail address, URL, postal address. the list shows names both from the memory and the sim but is available one at a time one can also add a picture of the person with the nos.

MESSAGES

has a capacity of housing 100 messages, MMS is hassle free and has built in templates of MMS.

The phone has POP3/IMAP4 e-mail client.

WAP

this phone is WAP enabled having WAP browser v2.0 EDGE is also enabled  which is class 10

TOOLS

this menu option has a bunc of tools like the calculator which is very handy  has an alrm clock, Voice recorder, Organiser, Activation List, World Time,

GAMES & APPLICATIONS

this phone supports JAVA MIDP2.0, has a couple of built in games and some applications like VAstu, MP3 player, the mp3 player is of little use as it cannot be minimised while playing and thus you cannot arrive at the main screen while playing with the MP3 player.

MULTIMEDIA

This phone supports themes and has bunch of built in features and cool pictures.

SETTINGS

from here one can activate the flight mode which is a profile for to be used while on the plane, the security settings can also be used from here and the security system of the L7i has been greatly protected by this as one can now password protect a lot of features be it your phone book your multimedia options, messages and a lot of other applications. the blue tooth setting now has the print options available which was not available earlier. this also has an audio profile with which one can pair the blue tooth headset with the handset so as to hear the music wirelessly.

USB SUPPORT

this phone has a connectivity suport for USB the USB wire that comes with the handset can be connected to the pC so as to send the date to and from the handset this USB cable can also be used to charge the handset from the PC.

CAMERA

this handset sports 1.3 Mpix camera allowing you to take photos in the resolutions of 120x160, 240x320, 480x640 and 960x1280 pixels also supports timer based capturing. shutter sound can be switched off, has the option of choosing  effects(color, black and white, blue, oldish, red, green, and negative) has the capability of an 8x digi zoom while the picture detoriates greatly in zoom mode the picture quality is good enough in 2x zoom.

while recording video the interfce switches to landscape mode automatically and has three quality for your video plaesures good, best, very best, low - 128x96 pixels, high - 176x144 pixels, The quality of the video is average and sound may be turned off when recording. Frame rate – 15 FPS

The package comes with the handset(obviously) a USB data cable, a microsd card of 128mb, a headset, 3pcs of earplugs, a cd with software for the phone.

PROBLEMS

the problem with this phone is although it supports minisd card upto 1GB but it hangs quite often when 1GB card is inserted.

the cellphone looks ugly when after some usage the side colour comes off,

the screen gets dirty pretty easily.

FM is missing

ADVANTAGES

the software are all updated so it consumes less battery then the previous one.

the camera is quite good for this range of phone.

this phone is an absolute eye candy.

well on the last note I would like to mention that this phone is pretty hardy as from personal experience this phone has suffered serious falls and is full of scratches, has fallen in a bucketfull of water twice but inspite of all this still working great. I simply adore this phone.

the volume of the loud speaker is good enough for all the environment
