Before buying a new phone, I did a little survey to come to a conclusion there aren’t many good phones that suit my requirement. I have Creative MP3 player so I didn’t want MP3 player in my phone. I just wanted a decent phone with good looks, good screen resolution and reliable battery backup.

My friends advised me Nokia 6600. But I had made up my mind not to buy it as it was too common and its shape and size is too weird.

Then I came across Motorola L6 and I realized what they call ‘Love at first sight’!! I was fascinated by its large, excellent quality display; it’s slim and crisp looks and its unique key arrangement.

Now it’s over a month I’m using it, and believe it’s the best phone one can ever get in 6000 bucks!!

I’ll categorize my review in following –

1. Aesthetics: I bet you won’t find any other phone in the entire market that looks as cool as L6 and L7 ! It’s so slim, just 10.9 mm thick. You might find it bit wide and longer than any other phone, but it just slides into your jeans pocket. It is slim; but strongly built with aluminum body and plastic coated buttons. The weight is just around 85 gms. The background light is blue and the keypad looks outstanding in dark. Also, the keys just below the screen as well as on the side of phone can be customized for any shortcuts. This is really helpful.

The right and left buttons of main navigation keys are for ring volume control and is quite handy.

Only drawback is absence of Auto keypad lock facility. You have to do it manually, but thanks to unique keypad structure the chances are rare that any key would be pressed accidentally while phone is in your pocket.

2. Display: As per the company claims it is scratch-resistant glass display of 65000 colors. The colors look attractive, bright and natural and the crystal-clear clarity of the display reminds you of LCD screen. And yes, the screen is visible in bright sunlight as well.

3. Handling and features:The user interface and navigation is pretty easy to use. The T9 Predictive text typing is handy as well. The drawback is less messages storing capacity.

The voice clarity is good and the speaker phone feature is also helpful if you are driving a vehicle or lying on a bed and tired of putting the phone to your ears. It has also nice sound clarity and it can enabled with a click of a button when call is in progress and can be switched off easily.

Out of the 30 provided ringtones, 5-6 are MP3 and other are polyphonic. MP3 ringtones really rock.

Bluetooth works at its best and shows you the status bar showing how much per cent(%) the file is received. It prompts you before starting transfer so that you can directly reject transfer if you are afraid of the virus intrusion.

The inbuilt 10 MB memory is good enough to store as many as 50 MP3 ringtones of around 20 seconds length for each or around 20 songs in .AMR format. The MP3 to .AMR converter you can download from sites like https://cnet.com and convert your 4-5 MB songs (MP3,WAV,WMA format) to .AMR format. Transfer it to your L6 through Bluetooth/Data cable and enjoy !

There are 3 JAVA games with good graphics and all, but I’m not right person to comment because I don’t use the Games feature much.

Phonebook can store 500 entries and for every entry you can store following fields – Name, Nickname, 4 numbers(Home, Mobile, Work, Fax), Category, Street 1, Street 2, City, State/Province, Country, Birthday and needless to mention you can assign the ringer ID or Picture ID from photos as well. That’s really too much.

Also, you can add voice tags to contacts. You have to record your voice tag for that contact and while calling him, just say it near to the phone and it'll dial to the appropriate contact after frequency matching.

4. Camera: It sure is not a 1.3 Megapixel camera, but a VGA camera that can take pictures at resolutions of 160x120, 320x240, 640x480. The photos appear better than Nokia, LG counterparts with the highest available resolution.

Moreover there is 3X digital zoom, but it blurs the picture a little bit.

There are various settings like Lighting Conditions (Automatic, Sunny, Cloudy, Indoor), Photo type (Color, Black and white, Greenish etc), resolution (said above). Moreover while taking photo, you can adjust the exposure as well. There is a self-timer as well which can provide delay of 5 or 10 secs.

Also, I like the position of the camera lens which is at the top of the backside of phone which avoids interference of fingers while holding the phone when you take pictures.

Also, you can record a video of 30 seconds and it comes out impressive as well.

5. Battery Life: The battery life is satisfactory and after fully charging, battery goes for 2.5 days on average. My talktime is average and I used Bluetooth to copy many images, I took photos and recorded a video, used speaker phone often, played ringtones and songs on speakerphone during the review time. Battery takes 2 hours to recharge fully.

Conclusion:

This is great phone at very competitive price. I don’t know why people are so crazy about Nokia when phones like L6 and SLVR are available at unbelievable prices in the market. It stands out in a crowd of Nokias and grabs attention..

So grab it and get ready for the 'Slim Revolution' !!
