If you want to find rare spiritual, philosophical and esoteric works, head for Motilal Banarasidas, located near the Mahalaxmi Temple in Mumbai (near the earlier location of Crossword). Once you enter you will find yourself surrounded by an amazing array of titles, on the ground floor and the alcove above, some so rare and esoteric, that you won't find them anywhere else.
If you are interested in Spiritualism, Philosophy, Religion and Mysticism, Motilal Banarasidas is worth a visit. Here you will find genuine seminal and rare works and not the spate of self-help best sellers which flood the more glitzy commercial bookstores. You won't be disappointed and you'll surely find something interesting for your bookshelves. It's ideal for an unhurried browse, so make sure you have plenty of time and solitude when you plan a visit to this inspiring bookstore.
Motilal Banarasidas also organises an annual bookfair which is well advertised and a must do for all biblios. Unassumingly tucked away on the lane to Mahalaxmi temple, it is one of my favorite bookstores in Mumbai.
They have a branch in Pune on Bajirao Road, where Hotel Jawahar was located earlier, and if you are in Pune it's worth a visit, though the collection is not as extensive as their Mumbai bookstore.
