While I have had nice visits to Montreal in the past, sadly fewer and fewer lately for a number of reasons. What I will focus on here though are Montreal roads and parking.
If you drive there, be warned the roads are truly deplorable. Seeming always under construction, but never improved. It is so easy to damage your car driving on Montreal streets.
Issues relating to parking are perhaps even worse. So many streets have limited parking with very poorly signed restrictions. In places where there is no signage and no reason not to be able to park, as others do, you risk receiving a tickets within minutes. And these tickets are typically$90. Many of their parking meter payment machines are constantly not working properly so you can't even pay when you try. Yet, regardless here comes another ticket. I even spoke to a parking ticket officer and told him about the machine being broken and he just gave me a smug smile as he handed me the ticket and said "welcome to Montreal".
