On November 2 Monsters Inc. hit theaters all across the United States. Monsters of all shapes, sizes and ages flocked into theaters everywhere to see what the movie about things that cause fear in hundreds of children was all about. You have guessed it, I was one of the monsters that paid to see this very cute bit of animation. My daughter who is six years old was thrilled through out the entire movie. However, there were other little movie patrons that were not as thrilled. One child from somewhere behind us screamed through the first part declaring that he wanted to leave and leave now!
General Overview Despite the young lad who pleaded to leave the theater, most of the other children there, including their parents seemed pretty amused at this movie. The movie is based on that old time fear that many of us have suffered from sometime during our childhood. The fear of the monster in the closet or the one that is hiding under the bed. But Monsters Inc does not stop there!
Plot The basic plot is that somewhere in another world, there is a factory that provides electricity from the screams of children. The Monsters job at Monsters Inc is to capture those screams in canisters and turn them over to the company that then generates power from the screams of children. But as any movie, there is also another darker side to this factory. There is a few Monsters who want to kidnap children and have an evil machine that will pull the screams out of the child without them having to even utter a note. Because I do not like giving away everything, I will not reveal anymore of the movie at this point.
Production Information Monsters Inc is a full featured animation that was directed by Peter Docter and features the voices of greats like Billy Crystal, John Goodman, James Coburn and Jennifer Tilly.
In closing There are times that the movie was slow for me as an adult, but my daughter loved this film and gave it two thumbs up.
