The news of Monster.com setting shop in India brought a sweet smile to my face, never-the-less this was short lived as this review will go on to explain.
I have always been skeptical of all these recruitment agencies going online with customized versions of your resume floating in cyber space with so called access to a large database of recruiters just dying to get hold of you. Well, one would turn around & snap back to say ''Grapes are sour bloke''.
Honestly, I have been with a single company from day one & quite content with life out there but it does help to have your resume out in the market. Helps to hone your skills & keeps you abreast of our true worth - I am sure most of us agree with that.
The point I am trying to make and I think Monsterindia.com is no better than the rest. They have this format wherein you can deploy ''Agents'' (Descriptors of the job you would want) on the net, which should get you the right selection of jobs. You can also specify the locations where you would like to be placed and you provide the relevant information (Work permits held or you lack for positions overseas).
What do you get after all this? Yes, hordes e-mails citing great openings available abroad. Then when you apply you get filtered out immediately for the lack of a work permit in spite of having provided that information earlier!! Talk about the customized service!!
At the end all of us end up providing a bunch of people information about ourselves & that too well profiled information, which they at some point in time can leverage (read spin a quick buck) by marketing the database.
Think again where lies that MONSTER?!
