An animated movie with some horrifying sequences and funny incidents becomes a great entertainer! Yes, Monster House is a 100% entertainer and it’s an fantastic flick for kids as well as parents!

The story of the movie: Three kids DJ, Chowder and Jenny who are the best of friends discover that there is something fishy in the house opposite to DJ’s. The house belonged to Nebbercrakcer, a maniac type of guy who hates kids a lot. DJ, Chowder and Jenny observed that the house eats away whatever lands on its property, be it some item or a human itself! DJ tries to convince the babysitter in his house, Zee but she didn’t believe him. The three kids even called the cops, who also didn’t believed them. Later the house pulled DJ, Chowder and Jenny towards itself. Once inside the house, the trio started finding why the house is haunted.

Monster House is not an ordinary animated movie. It is special in many ways. Monster House wins in its amazing ‘cinematography’! The camera zooms, circles around the characters and other things making the movie delightful and unique! Also, the movie has an amazing direction. Because of the great direction, you are glued to the screen throughout the movie and you don’t even feel bored, even for a moment. And lastly, the 3D animation is brilliant, new age and perfect for such a movie.

Though the movie is promoted as or looks like a horror movie, it is not in my opinion. There is nothing to get scared in the entire movie. There are only some scary moments in the movie.

What I liked most in this movie is the way the characters are shaped up. Each character is neatly sketched and distinguished and it is also made slightly funny. Chowder’s character was the best one. He was shown as if he is cool and brave but the truth was he was the most frightened one! Another character, which I liked the most, was Officer Lister! He was the dark-skinned thin cop. His face is such that you feel like laughing the moment he comes on screen. Also his walking-style, his voice and talking style are hilarious. In my opinion he is the most funniest and entertaining character of the whole movie!

There is no flaw in the movie. But the flashback sequence of Nebbercracker was a big shortcoming. The flashback sequence was silly and didn’t suit the mood of the movie. One feels that the portion should have been better and sensible.

Screenplay by Dan Harmon, Rob Schrab and Pamela Pettler is amazing and deserves applause for their great work. Paul Babin and Xavier Grobet’s cinematography is, as I said before, amazing and unique. Gil Kenan’s direction was also fantastic.

Some of the best scenes of the movie:

  1. Nebbercracker’s entry

  2. The scene where DJ and Chowder saves Jenny from getting sucked into the house of Nebbercrakcer

  3. The scene where DJ, Chowder and Jenny plan to send a dummy into the monster house

  4. The scene where Chowder robs his dad’s shop

  5. The scene where the cops and a guy called Bones get sucked into the monster house

  6. The scene where the trio comes to know about Nebbercrakcer’s wife

  7. The climax (Fantastic!)

On the whole, Monster House is an excellent entertainer for the whole family, especially for the kids. It is a 100% entertainer, which does not bore even for a minute. It’s the perfect movie to be watched this week!
