THE LEGENDARY ACTOR

As the spell of the computer games on me is temporarily broken, here I choose to get to one of the most legendary actors in the history of Malayalam movies - Mohanlal. He is one actor whom I admired most and I am still a fan of him because of the memorable contributions he gave to the viewers.

I believe that Mohanlal surely is the best actor, the Malayalam movie industry has ever seen. No one else has done all types of roles with this much perfection like this man also called Lalettan by lots of people.

I believe that all of you know this man who played ''the police comissioner who got a different approach to crime and criminals'' in Ram Gopal Varma's ''Company'' - he even did a fantastic job there.

Mohanlal was born on May 21, 1960. His roles do have a large amount of variety with a mental patient in Thaalavattam, an extremist in Guru, a confused young man in Kireedam, a smuggler in Irupathaam Nootaandu, an escaped prisoner in Chitram, a loving husband in Life Is beautiful, a police officer in Vandanam, a C.I.D in Pattana Pravesham, a Kathakali artist in Vaanaprastham, a singer in Bharatham - a wide variety of roles he did to success.

Mohanlal, who has been around in the movie industry for nearly two decades now, made his debut in Manjil Virinja Pookkal where he was a villain which he continued in some more movies.

Then he worked his way to the top mainly by doing some comedy and emotional roles. There were a large number of comedies released including Nadodikkaatu, Patana Pravesham etc which were able to capture the mind of the audience.

He got the national award for Bharatam as well as Vaanaprastham - both were slow art movies, but had the display of the magical skills of Mohanlal as the way in which he mastered the qualities of the two different characters, a musician and a Kathakali artist was quite fantastic! ''Kalapani'', another movie, this one based on freedom struggle bagged five national awards and seven state awards.

The main error he made was that he acted in very poor films like ''Vaamanapuram Bus Route'' which had some boring comedies along with the so called action movies like ''Naaturaajavu'' which have not got even the least amount of logic in it - same was the case with some of his other movies like ''Praja'' and ''Onnaaman'', not to forget ''Hariharan Pillai Happyaanu''.

I used to see all of his movies when I was a kid. The main problem he now has is that he is getting fatter and fatter ever day. Lets hope that his currently running movie ''Maambazhakaalam'' is better than his earlier ones.

Not to forget the upcoming one ''Vadakkum Naathan'' is going to be an inspiring one as its posters show.....I don't know why, but my favourite movie of him is ''Hello My Dear Wrong Number'' and also ''Yodha'' which I have seen the maximum number of times.....

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

There may not be any other career with more highlights than this man's.....

1) KILUKKAM

One of the most classic movies ever made with the presence of comedy, action and every component a typical movie needs. Mohanlal giving his best performance in this movie, this became one of the best ever released. He plays a selfless person who helps a girl in finding his father and in the process, falls in love with her. I don't know why they can't make these type of movies again.

2) THAALAVATTAM

In the movie, Mohanlal plays the role of an inmate in asylum as we go through the feelings of his mind and those situations that brought him there. No one else would have done a role like this better than this. He got his expressions right and we can see his class as we go through the movie - the way in which he has handled each situation with the right attitude and spirit making a usual movie into a masterpiece.

3) KIREEDAM

Mohanlal's award winning performance in its best in this movie. He plays a person who is forced to fight for his life by the circumstances. A person who has been a noble man was made a criminal by the society even if he never wanted to be so. The sequel to the movie ''Chenkol'' was also a nice one even if filled with too much sentiments. This movie is where Mohanll is at his best!

4) CHITRAM

May be the most emotional and touching movie I have ever seen in my life even as this movie started with high quality comedies until the 80% was over. This movie has a remake in Hindi named ''Chori Chori'' starring Midhun Chakravorthy. With Mohanlal in the movie with his early style of acting, the small flaws in the story line just vanished by itself. He is a prisoner who has escaped from jail after sentenced to death - he falls in love and it is really hard for him to realise the truth about his life! The only thing I am sad about is that I saw this movie very late.

5) NAADODIKKAATU

May be the funniest of the movies I ever watched. Mohanlal, along with Sreenivasan gives us a never ending laugh riot in this movie. They play two persons who are misunderstood as C.I.Ds. In the two sequels of this movie - ''Pattana Pravesham'' and ''Akkare Akkare Akkare'' show the same class and in them they play real C.I.Ds who solves cases out of mistakes. You will not find better comedies keeping a good standard like this anywhere else, thanks to all the crew and especially Mohanlal.

The other interesting movies I would like to mention are ''Sanmanasullavarku Samaadhaanam'', ''Yodha'', ''Aram + Aram = Kinnaram'', Hello My Dear Wrong Number'', Mazha Peyyunnu Madhalam Kottunnu'', ''T.P Balagopalan M.A'', ''Bharathm'', ''Vanaprastham'', ''Kalaapani'', ''Mukundhetta Sumitra Vilikkunnu'', ''Irupathaam Nootaandu'', ''Guru'', ''Naaduvaazhikal'', ''Raajaavinte Makan'', ''Midhunam'', ''Devasuram'', ''Kamaladhalam'', ''Chandralekha'', ''Gandhinagar second street'' etc. If I am to mention all his good movies, it is going to overflow in this review. The above ones, I believe are among his best. I hope that he continue his good performance.....
