For quite some time now I have been on the hunt for a generous DVD stand alone player which will have, well "EVERYTHING"!
Philips was the only name as a brand which came inches close to giving me what I was looking for.
Philips rolled out a model (5106 k) which had everything (almost). Untill, the need for a player that can hadle highly compressed formats such DivX and Xvid better became the main manthra among masses. Philips failed in this ground. All the people who bought 5106k had one thing to say in common. It couldn’t play a few MPEG4 (DivX and XviD) encoded movies properly, sometimes refused to play at all. Next came the Quality factor and Features. Philips no doubt is class apart from the rest interms of quality, but features? hmmm! I was verymuch sure that there was nothing to beat 5106k in the market. After doing indepth analysis on the net I found this name virtually on every online store. It’s called Mitashi. I got the official Mitashi web page and read about the company. Its not as big as philips but they definitely are promising. Infact their latest DVD player called DivX 999 was displayed with full specs was very impressive. It was a mind blowing product I felt. The only thing concerning was the credibility of the information given on the page. So I browsed through user reviews on the product. They all had great opinions about this player.
It had all the features of 5106 k plus many newer and greater features.
I am an Audio Engineer by profession. I also work on High Quality Video processing jobs. Hence I know what is QUALITY! I needed hard hitting proof. So I said, let me buy it! however it doesn’t cost heavy, just Rs 4990 MRP. A bang competitor for 5106k. (Though 5106 k is no longer produced).
This Mitashi baby plays anything and everything. Carries Dolby Digital and DTS decoder on board (5.1 Channel discrete outs). It also has Dolby Pro logic 2 (Stereo to 5.1). It reads any format of divX and XviD perefectly. No hassles at all.
But the greatest thing abt this dvd player is that it is HDTV ready. Meaning, it has got this Video resolution upscaling faclity which will become mandatory once HDTV rules every where(It will happen shortly).
Brilliant colour rendition, depth and contrast was just amazing.
Just I felt that audio had something fishy. Bass is slightly boosted. You may have to turn the bass down at your amplifier end to ensure flat response.
I hate the Blue Display that it carries on its relatively decent front facia.
The next greatest thing is that this baby can also playback DVD Audio and SACD! Somthing that philips or any other brand (yet) cannot! Atleast not in this price range.
It also comes with a handy mic for karaoke! fun!
It comes with a one year warranty.
Over all its a great value for money, Highly promising and satisfying Product.
I would recommend this player anyday ahead of any philips entry level models. Other brands like LG, Sansui, Samsung are still miles behind Mitashi’s Offering. The best bet competitor for mitashi 999 in the near future is no doubt going to be PHILIPS.
However,
Mitashi is a true champion.
