Movie Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous

The Plot (screenit.com)

Gracie Hart (SANDRA BULLOCK) is a field agent for the FBI, but her public fame of previously having gone undercover in a beauty pageant means that her cover is blown whenever she's on a case. Accordingly and much to her dismay, her superior, Agent McDonald (ERNIE HUDSON), informs her that her new assignment is to be the positive face of the FBI.

While off doing a book signing, Gracie learns that her beauty pageant friend Cheryl Frazier (HEATHER BURNS) -- the current Miss United States -- and the pageant's emcee, Stan Fields (WILLIAM SHATNER), have been kidnapped. The perpetrators are brothers Karl (NICK OFFERMAN) and Lou Steele (ABRAHAM BENRUBI) who've nabbed Stan for outstanding gambling debts owed to another man. When they hear that man's plans to ransom Cheryl for millions, the brothers scare off their boss and keep the two hostages for themselves.

Accompanied by her new makeover man Joel (DIEDRICH BADER) and his hair and makeup team of Pam (LESLIE GROSSMAN) and Janine (LUSIA STRUS), Gracie heads off for Vegas to do PR work on this latest case. There, she meets Agent Walter Collins (TREAT WILLIAMS) who's in charge of the local office, and is assigned to work with green agent Jeff Foreman (ENRIQUE MURCIANO) whose girlfriend, Janet (ELISABETH RÖHM), also works for the agency. Also along with Gracie is bitter field agent Sam Fuller (REGINA KING) who has a problem with authority and anger management issues, and doesn't like Gracie or the fact that she's been assigned as her bodyguard.

Frustrated by being relegated to doing PR work rather than actually trying to solve the case involving her pageant friends, Gracie disobeys orders as she tries to figure out who the kidnappers are, why they nabbed Cheryl and Stan, and how to save them

My Review

Sandra Bullock's antics....are the only pros AND cons in the movie!

Whether its her character Gracie Hart's goof-ups, her snorts (irritating) or the silly fights with her own bodyguard, you will end up either smiling at the fun (which I doubt) or frowning in disgust...

I think director John Pasquin's intention was to make this a comedy cop thriller like the yesteryear movie Beverley Cop starring Eddie Murphy. But does it truly entertain? It could have if the silliness factor could have been toned.

Ya, there are some pleasurable moments like watching Sandra Bullock dressed up as a glamorous FBI barbie doll and also some scenes of fun like Sandra's clumsy acts in the initial scenes or her disguise as a grandma while investigating a crime. But that's about it. Comedy in bits 'n' pieces cannot salvage a movie from mediocrity.

Everybody in the cast are fine including lead actors Sandra Bullock (Speed, The Lake House, Crash), Regina King (Ray, Enemy of the State, Jerry Maguire) and Diedrich Bader (popular in the Drew Carey Show).

But whose idea was to allow our Sandra to 'snort like a wild boar' in the movie? Was it her own? Anyway, that was an unfortunate & an annoying mistake!

The prequel Miss Congeniality was a mile better. Atleast it also had hollywood hunk Benjamin Bratt (Julia Robert's ex-flame) sharing on-screen chemistry with our spunky Sandra.

Trivia(imdb.com)

Jesse James, Sandra Bullock's husband, appears very briefly as the guy who loses the arm-wrestling contest in the bar.

Director - John Pasquin

Year - 2005

Starring - Sandra Bullock, Regina King, Diedrich Bader

Verdict - Well if you like Sandra's peach-skin complexion, go for it! Bollywood tamasha offers you better value for money :)
