I watched this movie in summer, its just fantastic. Its the true story of a bunch of underdogs rising to the occassion and achieving a spectacular task (the GOLD MEDAL) in Olympics. Its set in the year 1980, the time when Olympics was held in Lake Placid, USA.
Here is a bit of history, USA had won its last Gold medal in Ice Hockey at Olympics in 1960. And the next best performance was in 1972, a silver. And nothing else in the bag for the Americans. Meanwhile Russia had won 4 golds since 1960.... meaning they had won all the finals. The Czechs had 2 silvers and two bronze. The team had faded, and now they were playing real bad.
The 1976 olympics was a shame for the US ice hockey team. Now they want to get back and fight. A new coach is summoned, Herb Brooks. Amazingly he takes a squad of college ice hockey stars, plans to train them to beat the vastly more experienced and talented team from the Soviet Union at the Olympic Games. Ofcourse you can guess the end result.
One can imagine the Indian cricket team being replaced by a brand new team for the World Cup and winning it !!!
But Herb Brooks is a magician, he knows how to make the team click. I think I better leave the rest of the movie out of the review. Its very insprational and very true.

Kurt Russell plays Herb Brooks. He has played it really well. The cast has other time hollywood actors. They had experience playing ice hockey in real life. They have played their roles well.
The coach built the team on unity and hardwork. He knew how to play the chess.
