My mother was admitted for a hip fracture treatment. Patient was taken to trauma ICU and subsequently undergone surgery there.
The doctors, staff and security personnel were extremely rude in their behavior, giving scant respect to patient attendants. Rules and procedures to be followed by patient attendants were not explained clearly. No factual information is given on course of treatment planned which is a gross violation of patient rights.
There is a system called patient status briefing for which signature and thumb impression of relative is taken as if in police station. Briefing was done by a an ill-informed junior doctor who does not part with any factual information. In case of my mother I was asked to chose between plate fixation or hip replacement to my horror. This was extreme unethical behavior and violating patient and relatives human rights.
There was no way to meet consulting doctor or surgeon who is going to do the surgery. It was not revealed which doctor is doing surgery.( I came to know the doctors name only from discharge summary reports and met him after one month during post surgical review!). This is another rights violation and against ethics.
During post surgery reviews also doctor never listens to the feedback of problems or symptoms explained by patient or attendants .My mother was suffering extreme pain.My queries on when her mobility( walking) will be restored, the doctor simply stated making her walking was not the surgery objective, which was not revealed to me before surgery. I am left with self contempt and depression that I made a wrong choice by opting for plate fixation instead of hip replacement.
During reviews also real picture is not revealed. When I consulted another doctor with reports, x-rays and scan reports done at MIOT hospitals I am told that no healing has happened even after four months in fact her condition has worsened.This infomation information was not revealed by MIOT doctors.
The attenders, ward boys etc in this hospital accepts tips for the services they do. On many occasion I had to shift my bedridden mother with help from just one hospital staff from stretcher to bed, which is not even heard in govt hospitals.
In the reception counter the staff cheats on giving complementary water bottle, even though it is printed in the bill. The morality in this hospital has stooped to such low levels,
The PRO lady staff and nursing assistant staff are standing examples rude behavior. Any questions will be answered in a hurting manner in the dialect used for speaking without respect, No place for any bystanders even to sit if the patient is in ICU. No drinking water or even a toilet is there for such waiting people. Another group of highhandedness is security personnel who did not allow to take food inside hospital for stretcher patient during one of out patient visits.
Another group of staff is doctor's secretaries who will keep patients waiting for a minimum one hour for a report.
The hospital literally drive away patient attendants including those in critical state from the campus by 6.00 PM. No wonder 18 patients died in ICUs during Chennai floods, which is due to arrogant work culture exists in this hospital. I wonder how the hospital responsible for causing death of such a large number in single go still manages to function with impunity . I urge authorities in government to take close down this unethical highhanded establishment .
