Thinking off late, I am feeling what most of us are thinking about. What next? Reservations already at 22.5 percent what next can we expect. And to our surprise comes Arjun Singh who breaks the silence with a sudden announcement of increase in reservations to 49.5 percent. A sudden rise of 27 percent inreservation quota!

Reservations when started were not to becontinued for more than a few years. Today even after 50 years of Independence our state is same as it was: a society divided into castes. All differences intact, even fuelled by political parties just for their benefit!

A million dollar questionCan reservations help improve the state of backward classes in India?

We can improve the state of backward classes only by empowering villages. Impart knowledge, which is possible not by providing reservations in Post-Graduation or Graduation but instead provide them with better primary education. I have heard various hilarious reasons supporting increase of quota/reservations. One of the reasons which actually amuses is: Rise in reservation quota was necessary as the backward class people do not get to study in good schools (like DPS or else). Is that true?

Oh! I also did not study in a very recognized school does that mean that I must get reservation on the basis of that. Also, rural parts of India are not only inhabited by backward classes; upper & middle classes also are integeral part of that society. Not every one of them is able to educate their children ably. So shouldn’t they be part of the reservation structure.

If reservations are provided in the Grad & Post-Grad colleges, no one is helping them to be self-dependent. Students availing this opportunity will be the ones who actually do not deserve it. They have already received their necessary primary education and they must compete equally with other aspirants for both the Grad & Post-Grad colleges. If the student is capable but not able to get finances, he/she should be provided with finances/scholarship. However, this also based on merit but not caste.

Government should concentrate on those students who are not even able to complete their schools. Provide them with better opportunities. Percentage of students dropping out from schools is very high in rural parts of India. A must do thing for the agencies should be to improve the education system in rural India. Teachers teaching in the rural parts are not well paid; the schools are not well maintained; students do not get enough motivation to complete school. This can only be improved only if government decides to improve the education system in remote parts of the country. In addition, this will definitely increase the economic growth opportunities for India.

As the rural India gets closer to the urban India, the growth process is whole and not partial or biased.
