May be this is year is a big relief for all the tax payers, thanx to mr.yashwant sinha for not putting any additional taxes. big question is where the government is generating revenue from? thousands of crores of rupees is required on a long term basis to rehabilitate the quake victims in gujarat as well as other drought-hit parts of the country.my sincere advice to mr. sinha is to widen the tax net so that more and more people will pay tax. now the fact is only the fixed income earners are forced to pay income tax.there are many other professions and services in this country where the income levels are few tens of times higher than the fixed income earners. there is no way one can account for that kind income.and I sincerely do not understand why agri income is not taxable.income is income irrespective of where it is coming from. fixed income earners however have no alternative but to pay tax.nobody is bothered what their savings and expenditures are.just because they are getting income under one category they are taxed. just to give an example please try to observe what proportion of fixed income earners are enjoying cars and fixed assets, and what proportion of other professionals are enjoying all these luxuries. keeping all these in mind I hope the ministry of finance will make a sincere effort towards rationalising the tax structure and the definition of a tax payer.
